ABC GUIDE TO THE 1,000 GUINEAS: Daqman named the one-two for the 2,000 Guineas in three bets yesterday and now turns to the 1,000 with a lead of 22-4 over his arch-rival, Pricewise of the Racing Post (overall scores 163-77). Now check out his ABC guide to the first fillies’ Classic.
BIG ODDS AND A FOURTH BANKER: Daqman finds some big offers at 15.0 and 11.0 in the handicaps – he also clashes with Pricewise at 1.50 and 3.00 Newmarket – but his main bet is in the Dahlia Stakes, a bid for a fourth consecutive winning banker.
BETDAQ BANK HOLIDAY MEETING: Look out at tomorrow’s Bank Holiday racing, in which Daqman concentrates on a race-by-race guide to the BETDAQ-sponsored meeting at Kempton Park.

3.40 Newmarket (1,000 Guineas) I’m going for the Rockfel form on this course last autumn when Lucida beat a too-green Fadhayyil. Gentleman Jim Bolger has compared Lucida with Finsceal Beo and reports the daughter of Shamardal in great form but, as I understand it, Barry Hills has kept his trainer’s licence on this year for Fadhayyil and she has done well over the winter.
Similarly, Jellicle Ball may turn round the Fred Darling form with Redstart. Though this trial is not usually conclusive for the Guineas, John Gosden has used it before.
ABCDEF Redstart Yet another good filly for Ralph Beckett, got the run of the Fred Darling Stakes and many fancy runner-up Jellicle Ball to turn the tables. Tiggy Wiggy didn’t run her race and was third.
ABCDEFX Lucida Second in the Moyglare Stud Stakes and beat Fadhayyil a length in the Rockfel, a race Jim Bolger also won on his way to winning this Guineas with Finsceal Beo, to whom he has compared Lucida.
Behind a Ballydoyle winner of the Fillies’ Mile at Newmarket but seemingly not at home on the soft ground that day.
ABCDEFX Osaila Behind Lucida in the Moyglare but quickened up well to win the Nell Gwyn this Spring in a photo with the Rockfel third.
ACDEF Malabar Mick Channon’s Bossy Guest reached the first four in the 2,000 yesterday, and this Moyglare and Grand Criterium fourth has been progressive without being exciting.
She was always too far off the pace in those races and has been significantly backed for the Oaks on BETDAQ in the last few days. A true test should see her running on into a place today.
ACDEF Qualify Raced seven times last year but still needing the experience when down the field in the Moyglare and in the Breeders Cup Fillies.
But she won the Weld Park Stakes, in which Aidan O’Brien’s previous winners, Virginia Waters and Homecoming Queen, were both beaten.
ACDEFX Legatissimo Has raced twice this year already, only fourth in the 1,000 Guineas Trial at Leopardstown but impressive Listed winner at Gowran Park over further and on better ground.
ACDEFX Local Time Unbeaten since her debut and landed UAE Guineas and Oaks double this year in Dubai. The filly she beat in the Oh So Sharp Stakes last backend was fourth in the Nell Gwyn.
ACDEX Terror Supplemented for the Cheveley Park, won by Tiggy Wiggy, after breaking the track record at Kempton. Likely to make her mark as a sprinter.
ACDEX Tiggy Wiggy Lowther and Cheveley Park among six successes for this bold runner. No show under restraint in the Fred Darling, third to Redstart.
ADEF Irish Rookie The daughter of Azamour won two modest races last year. The dam’s side goes back to a Guineas winner.
BCEFX Fadhayyil A length off Lucida in the Rockfel Stakes last autumn when still green and with a trainer who won this Classsic twice, 30 years apart.
BFX Jellicle Ball Came with a rattle in the Fred Darling, unable to peg back, Redstart but John Gosden’s Lahan was also beaten at Newbury before winning this.
BF Queen Nerfititi Lightly raced daughter of Galileo, dam from the family of an Arc winner. Still learning the game and best over further.
DAQMAN’S 1,000 GUINEAS ORDER IN:
1 Fadhayyil (7.6 on BETDAQ), 2 Lucida (6.2), 3 Malabar (10.5), 4 Jellicle Ball, 5 Qualify, 6 Redstart.
FINTRY TO BLOOM IN DAHLIA FOR IN-FORM FABRE
1.50 Newmarket Whether the rain has arrived means a lot to the chances of Montaly, first-time winner last season for the in-form Andrew Balding. Montaly was to have run in Wednesday’s Chester Cup but appears here instead.
Gothic also needs the rain, and is closely matched with Astronereus. Quest For More is a summer horse who now needs two miles.
Arab Dawn landed a hat-trick in May last season but then failed four times in a row to make the transition to today’s class 2 under bigger weights.
Frankie Dettori has been booked for Farquhar, winner over CD at the backend of last year, fending off Adventure Seeker, with Fire Fighting well behind.
Fire Fighting has been going up in the weights in defeat, and Mark Johnston’s other runner, Watersmeet, comes here off the back of an AW hat-trick and has to translate that to turf form.
Not much point in taking single-figure offers in such a wide open race, nor in having place bets that deplete the margins on two ore more at the bigger odds.
I’ll have win bets Montaly and Farquhar, both around 12.0 in the BETDAQ orange, early mouse.
2.25 Newmarket (Dahlia Stakes) Andre Fabre came within an ace of winning the 2,000 Guineas with Territories yesterday (that ace was called Gleneagles).
He won the Dahlia last year with Esoterique and can land the double via his Royal Ascot fancy, Fintry, who goes well fresh and was only about 5lb off Integral at the back end of last year.
Rizeena, second favourite in the morning market, was around a stone behind Integral at the July Meeting and doesn’t normally win first time out.
Bragging won a handicap at that meeting but just failed to break into the pattern, second in a Group 3 later in the year. We have yet to see Sir Michael Stoute improving his older horses this year. We usually need to wait until the summer.
3.00 Newmarket Horses aged four and five win this, with the stands’ side favoured, among them Listed winner Zanetto, who lost his way last season but could be transformed by a wind op.
Huntsmans Close is another expected to improve and win a big handicap this year – connections are hoping for the Wokingham – after showing physical improvement over the winter. But he’s drawn in stall 3 today.
Mick Channon, in the money in the Guineas with the fourth horse home, has had better luck with front-runner Shore Step, allotted the 19 stall.
Richard Fahey expects Supplicant (in 11) to improve on his seasonal debut and has the Victoria Cup in mind.
Robert Cowell won another big sprint yesterday with Goldream (last year’s winner of this) and Secretinthepark, a CD winner rated higher than Goldream last season, could bounce back to form if the rain doesn’t get into the ground.
Third in the Ayr Gold Cup, Blaine from the Astaire stable, has been given Group entries, and is well enough drawn in 13.
Much will depend on the ground, but Blaine’s stable has won this race twice in the decade and his entries suggest that offers of 15.0 on BETDAQ are too big. Supplicant and Zanetto are similar prices.
