BETDAQ THE PLACE FOR BIG VALUE: The place bet on Daqman’s 25.0 BETDAQ bid for a Saturday bull’s-eye in the big hurdle at Newbury yesterday was enormous value at 7.6, following a 7-1 outright winner on Friday and a nap on both days.

Overall profit: 12 points
WON 4-11 LULAMBA (Saturday supernap)
WON (2nd 12-1) WELLINGTON ARCH (7.6 BETDAQ place)
WON 7-1 FAHRENHEIT SEVEN (Friday)
WON 7-4 MARIA DA SILVA (nap)

ALTIOR? NO, LAMB’S A STAYER

The ‘new Altior’, he is not. Admittedly, he was there for his education but Lulamba, the winner of the Game Spirit Chase at Newbury yesterday never once impressed; too often jumping awkwardly, he didn’t enjoy the race.

The only praise deserved by the Champion Chase favourite was that he stayed on well. The moderate round of jumping shouts for a switch to a longer trip and warns that the Cheltenham fences will not be so kind.

His jockey, Nico De Boinville, said after Lulamba won a three-horse finish for the Henry V111 at Sandown in early December that he was still a baby.

Nico lost no caste as the baby walker yesterday but the look on his face afterwards said it all, and trainer Nicky Henderson had to stress how much the five-year-old needed the education: ‘we had to come here..’

The race that may well be the ‘chase of the century’ is the Gold Cup, with the Irish ‘gold’ 1-2-3 of Fact or File, Gaelic Warrior and Galopin des Champs looking capable of any one of five other different orders-in.

And yesterday Haiti Couleurs confirmed that he deserves a crack at them, stepping up from his Grade-3 Welsh Grand National to Grade-2 Denman Chase by seven lengths from the dour L’Homme Presse, whose Cotswold Chase second had also put that winner, Spillane’s Tower, in line for Cheltenham gold.

When I backed Wellington Arch at 25.0 yesterday, I could take 7.6 three places on BETDAQ, incredible value despite the runaway win by Tutti Quanti, who now gives Paul Nicholls a Champion Hurdle chance.

That Wellington Arch finished 18 lengths clear of the remainder in a field of 15 made the 25.0 defeat feel harder to take, though we did score like 13-2 winners!

DON’T LET HER GO AT 11.0

⭕ 1.37 Chelmsford Andrew Balding has had four winners in his last six days’ racing, and returns here with Berkshire Schmokin back on track after being gelded. BETDAQ 4.6.

Ollie Sangster is on a hat-trick after scoring twice yesterday, and the well-bred Let Her Go could be anything on her handicap debut. BETDAQ 11.0.

⭕ 2.37 Chelmsford Three of David Simcock’s last four runners have won, two of them ridden by Luke Morris. Last time they were together, Pickering Castle was hampered in his run over 6f at Southwell.

Now Pickering Castle, who has been placed twice for Morris, returns to 7f with form figures at that trip of 332 since his debut. BETDAQ 7.2.

THE WRITING’S ON THE WALL

⭕ 3.50 Navan (Ten Up Novices Chase) Gordon Elliott’s record in this race of 12011011 in the last eight years suggests that The Wallpark cannot be overlooked, in spite of 13.0 BETDAQ offers this morning.

Once rated clear of this field on hurdles form, he is ridden by Mark Walsh, who has become a human dynamo on horseback ever since the McManus move for
Harry Cobden.

In a spectacular Dublin Festival weekend, Walsh rode half the eight Grade-1 winners, including the Irish Gold Cup on Fact Or File.

In today’s race, the favourite is likely to be Oscars Brother, who won the Florida Pearl at Punchestown He looks headed for the Brown Advisory, in which Gold Dancer is double his price.

‘Oscar’ missed the Faugheen in which Gold Dancer was second, after also finishing second to Romeo Coolio in the Drinmore. Both were half a mile shorter.

Gold Dancer is a year younger and 2lb ahead of Oscars Brother in the ratings. Plenty of room for plays in a 100% Betdaq Betting Exchange win market.
