CLAIMING RIDERS PLAY CATCH

⭕ 2.00 Kelso (Scottish Borders National) Fourth in the Scottish National, Grozni has Brian Hughes booked by Sandy Thomson, who bids for a fifth win in this four-miler in nine seasons.

Last time he won it, Hughes was champion jockey with the two next champions, Harry Cobden and Sean Bowen, placed behind him second and third.

Bowen’s ride today, the mare Gold Clermont, came back to form three weeks ago, first run for Olly Murphy after wind ops.

Neo King has finished second in both the Southern National and the Devon National.

Lucinda Russell’s top weight, Cadell, compresses the handicap for her hat-trick seeker, De Legislator. It means that nothing else in the race carries more than 11st.

Newbury Gold Cup winner, Tristan Durrell, is given 5-1 shot Diamond Dealer’s treble chance bid only 4lb higher than when they ran away from a small field at Chepstow the last day.

Similarly, Charlie Maggs takes 5lb off Catch Catchfire (Betdaq Betting Exchange 12.0), another prominent runner. Both are only six and their futures are in front of them today!

WAY CLEAR FOR MAJBOROUGH

⭕ 2.50 Cork (Hilly Way Chase) Wilie Mullins owns the Hilly Way! He’s won the race 16 times, with the celebrated Douvan and Un De Sceaux among his recent winners.

Energumene is race champion, with three wins in the last four seasons but Willie is more likely to get his 17th way with stablemate Majborough, who is still only five.

Dual Cheltenham Champion Chase winner Energumene will be 12 on New Year’s Day but it has still taken ace players like Il Etait Temps and Jonbon to beat him.

Paul Townend has ridden him in 16 of his last 17 starts, scoring 11 times, and it’s loyalty – plus the old boy’s record first run back – that has him keeping the ride.

But Majborough (Mark Walsh) is already 4lb higher in the ratings; a Triumph Hurdle winner and beaten only threeparts of a length in the Arkle at Cheltenham.

The Fortria winner at Navan last month, Found A Fifty gets two-and-a-half miles and is the only one of the top four in this to have run and won already in the second half of the year.

The others have been on holiday for between 220 and 225 days, since the Punchestown Festival in May.

DJELO JUMPS BETTER THAN SAM

⭕ 3.00 Huntingdon (Peterborough Chase) Another old-timer, but a long way behind Energumene when they met in the 2023 Champion Chase, Edwardstone was placed five times in championship races won by Jonbon.

Willie Mullins sends over Saint Sam (Harry Cobden booked), whose form would be boosted if Found A Fifty made his mark in the Hilly Way. They were one-two in the Fairyhouse Chase in the Spring.

In favour of Saint Sam is his freegoing style on a track that will suit; even so, he can make mistakes.

Hitman broke a long losing sequence when winning the Old Roan at Aintree last month but is unlikely to hold his form.

Djelo won this race easily last year and gave Hitman 6lb and a comfortable beating in the Denman Chase at Newbury in February.

When he returned to take the Charlie Hall at Wetherby last month, the runner-up was Pic D’Orhy, winner of that Wetherby race the previous year. Solid form.

What are points? Points facilitate a staking plan, which is the secret to creating profit. One point is whatever you choose: a pound, a euro, or whatever ….

Start with a bank and decide how much you can afford to lose over a period of time, and determine the size of your bets accordingly. Daqman makes this variation every day.
