SUPER RIDES RUN DOWN U.S. PRIZES: The myth that only front-runners win the Breeders Cup in the American style was finally killed off yesterday when Frankie Dettori on Inspiral (Filly And Mare) and William Buick on Master Of The Seas (Mile) both switched wide to run down £866k prizes, while Ryan Moore bagged the £1.7m big race with a stunning drive along the Santa Anita inside rail on Auguste Rodin.

🇦🇺 MELBOURNE CUP TOMORROW: Daqman will remember it. The horses run down a neck and a nose on the line, Warm Heart and the nap, Mawj, were his bets. He remains on 97 naps and 61-35 in front of Pricewise. Look out for a Melbourne Cup outsider tomorrow after fireworks from some big bets today.

IS THIS THE TYPEWRITER KEY?

⭕ 3.00 Curragh (Loughbrown Stakes, 2m, Group 3) The absence of Aidan O’Brien, leading trainer in this with 4, leaves Dermot Weld (3) to draw level in the decade.

His Falcon Eight, runner-up here in September in the Irish Cesarewitch (Jesse Evans fourth), hasn’t put two races together since 2018 as a three-year-old.

But he had the beating of Shanroe in the Amateur Riders’ Derby here (soft-heavy) last October, and Shanroe – now nine – is on a hat-trick today, after beating small fields over shorter in the late summer.

Echoes In Rain has been an ever-present at Punchestown Festivals, winning the Champion Novice Hurdle (2021) and the Mares Champion Hurdle (2023), with a second to Honeysuckle in the Champion Hurdle in between.

But she’s won just once on the Flat, at Galway, since joining Willie Mullins in 2019. Can Willie do the Mullins’ magic today?

Powerful Aggie, third in the November Handicap (heavy) last year, was stone last in the same race in October.

This 2m could be spot on for Typewriter, who ran well, fourth, in the Queen Alexandra (2m 5.5f) at Royal Ascot, after fourth twice more in races of 1m 4f and 1m 6f (Group 3) at York.

ELLIOTT PAIR TO POP THE CORK

⭕ 3.15 Cork Grand National (3m 4f chase) Just one favourite has won in the decade and SPs have been 11-1, 14-1 (twice), 16-1, 18-1 and 40-1. Ouch!

With one exception the winner carried less than 11st, and Diol Ker seems to be holding up the handicap today. He’s on 11st 12lb; the rest officially 12lb in arrear.

But he won the Leinster National and was second for Noel Meade in the big Christmas chase at Leopardstown last year, and is claimed off 5lb.

Diol Ker and Kim Muir sixth Royal Thief (ex-Henry De Bromhead), who won after the break last season, are both having their first race for Gordon Elliottt this afternoon.

BETDAQ value 5.8 Royal Thief, 11.5 Diol Ker

CLASSIC TALE OF HANS ANDERSEN

⭕ 3.35 Curragh (Finale Listed Stakes, 1m 4f) The ratings say there are just three in it: Hans Andersen (105, Aidan O’Brien), Helvic Dream (105, Noel Meade) and Sunchart (104, Andrew Slattery), though Sunchart is only 1-25 on the Flat.

This 1m 4f is a new chapter for Hans Anderson in the story of a colt who won the Leopardstown 2,000 Guineas Trial (1m), and was only 9-1 for the French Guineas. He has had a 175-day holiday since then.

Helvic Dream was also kept to shorter trips (won a 1m 2f Group-1 at the Curragh as a four-year-old) but only his second ever try at 1m 4f was a winning one on the last day of October.

BETDAQ value 3.4 Hans Andersen, 5.7 Helvic Dream

LASKALIN LINED UP FOR THIS

⭕ 3.40 Carlisle (Cumberland Chase): I’ll take Hans Andersen to land my Flat nap of the day and rely on Venetia Williams to capture the Cumberland Chase for the NH best bet.

She has a near-25% strike rate when raiding Carlisle and Laskalin looks a stand-out on several counts.

Placed in 10 chases, the son of Martaline won first run back after the break last backend.

His three races in the Spring were all in grades higher than today’s: second in a Sandown class 2, he then attempted two Grade-3s, including at Cheltenham which he didn’t much like, jumping poorly.

Is he fresh and firing now? We have the impetus of Venetia Williams’ current form, winning twice from four starters in the last five days. BETDAQ 6.7
