IT’S A SUNDAY DOUBLE OF NAPS: Daqman today lines up a double of naps, one in the big race in France, the Prix Robert Papin at Maisons-Laffitte, and one at Uttoxeter. So one Flat and one Jumps, which is a banker.

GOODWOOD/GALWAY PREVIEW: There’s a mix of Flat and Jumps from now on as tomorrow Daqman lines up his Fortune Cookies and Two-Year-Old List for the big meetings at Goodwood and Galway, starting on Tuesday. Look out for his preview.

UNBEATABLE VALUE ON BETDAQ: Daqman will point up the ‘unbeatable value’ on BETDAQ, and value bets at the two big meetings will be flying between Daqman and Pricewise of the Racing Post from Tuesday until next Sunday, with the scores Daqman 57, Pricewise 25 (now 354-141 overall in six seasons).

KIRBY NEEDS A MARVELLOUS RIDE

2.45 Maisons-Laffitte (Prix Robert Papin) A scintillating performance in the Princess Margaret Stakes yesterday by Fair Eva, daughter of Frankel, ranks her alongside Lady Aurelia, the Queen Mary winner.

That is to say, if it’s any guide, Fair Eva finished a near-identical distance in front of Kocollada as had Lady Aurelia, and the second filly home yesterday, Kilmah, had been only about a length off winning the Cherry Hinton.

I shall be adding Fair Eva to my list of two-year-olds to follow. Meanwhile, all this is pertinent when we assess today’s colts-and-fillies clash in France, the Prix Robert Papin, featuring the Queen Mary runner-up, Al Johrah, and the Norfolk Stakes winner, Prince Of Lir.

England goes for a hat-trick in this two-year-old trial today but not through Richard Hannon, who has won it the last twice.

Clive Cox, who scored in 2012 with Reckless Abandon, for whom he booked Gerald Mosse, today sends over Tis Marvellous, with Adam Kirby travelling over, too.

Kirby has five booked rides at Goodwood next week, including Kodi Bear for Clive in the Sussex Stakes.

Tis Marvellous has won only a maiden at Windsor but Kirby told racing Post racereaders afterwards: ‘I like Tis Marvellous a lot. His attitude is great and he’s a very easy mover with a very bright future. If one had come to him he’d have gone again.’

Prince Of Lir is with Robert Cowell, who has had a lean 10 days, with all his runners losers and very easy to back.

The Kodiac colt brings Norfolk Stakes success – and a Nunthorpe Stakes entry – to the table, with the Royal Ascot form franked by a win for the second, a July Stakes (Group 2) fourth for the third and an Anglesey Stakes (Group 3) victory for the fourth.

It seems we have both a form horse, Prince Of Lir, and a potential star in Tis Marvellous, with just that worry about the Cowell yard’s form.

But can either one beat Al Johrah, a CD winner at Maisons on soft ground, so entitled to go well in the conditions that prevailed at Ascot. She is another whose stable is not in very good form right now, and conditions are riding fast. Progeny of her sire have a 25% strike-rate on the soft; 4% on good to firm.

VERDICT: The two English raiders, the only colts in the race, could have the edge in the conditions over Al Johrah but, though colts have won three of the last four Robert Papins, the winners’ circle for this race has been graced by outstanding fillies, like Ma Biche, Natagora and Special Duty.

Al Johrah and Prince Of Lir were both held up in biggish fields at Royal Ascot on soft, and I see this as fast and tactical with 4.7 BETDAQ offer Tis Marvellous likely to try to burn their engines out on the sound surface. Over to you, Mr Kirby.

MASTER CLASS CLASH OF TOP JOCKS

4.00 Pontefract (Pomfret Stakes) A good horse wins this, like last year’s success for Mondialiste, who gave Time Test such a good race yesterday.

Before that it was Group-2 winner Custom Cut. Both were trained in Yorkshire but were breaking a hold on the race by southern trainers, which will be hard to resist today.

Man who clearly means business is Rod Millman, who travels 5.7 BETDAQ offer Master Carpenter up from Devon, and has booked Silvestre De Sousa.

Master Carpenter, Group-3 placed over 10f at Chester in May, is dropped back to a mile, as the champion jockey deserts Mick Channon for the ride.

Channon, who declared two (runs Gratzie) is largely responsible for keeping De Sousa at the top of the table, having supplied him with 15 winners in 2016.

Convey (Ryan Moore) is a nearly horse of many excuses but has won only his maiden, always a bad sign. No excuses today, with Algaith likely to set a strong pace.

But that I can get around evens in such a race about a Stoute Group-placed Royal Hunt Cup favourite screams a warning.

4.25 Carlisle Apres Midi (Karl Burke and Dougie Costello are 4-8 here) and His Kyllachy (William Haggas has a 46% Carlisle strike rate) could fight this out, offered 4.2 and 4.4 on BETDAQ.

5.40 Pontefract Knockamany Bends (27.0 offers) will have been got up for a repeat bid after scoring in this last year. Could place.

5.50 Uttoxeter Transformed by blinkers, Ablazing, from a yard striking at 50%, is running free here, with his penalty for Friday’s Uttoxeter win negated by Richard Condon’s claim.
