AINTREE: CAP THAT! BETDAQ 17.0

What the Dickens! It was a day to remember and a day to forget yesterday; the best of times and the worst of times..

The star of my Saturday show was Cloth Cap, who bossed his field at Kelso; the good thing on the day who could be the good thing another day at Aintree.

😊 THE GOOD: Cloth Cap now tops my list of ante-post bets, taken at 17.0 on BETDAQ and down to 6-1 with most firms for the Grand National. We have the luxury of 10 points of overs!

He made all as he did in the Ladbrokes Trophy, a relentless gallop that gave Tom Scudamore his 50th winner of the season and had him dreaming the dream, to emulate his grandfather, Michael, who rode the winner at Aintree on Oxo in 1959.

😟 THE BAD: It made up for the earlier news that French Aseel, unexposed Willie Mullins horse in the Triumph Hurdle, would not carry the Daqman ante-post money at Cheltenham because of injury.

More bad news as the nap, Present Man, drifted to 12.5 on BETDAQ, a sure sign – more often than not – that he wasn’t right on the day.

👺 THE UGLY: The Saturday shout is to go for some big-hitters and cover with short-shots. The shorter shots did well, with The Shunter (WON 5-2) following straight on from Cloth Cap (WON 100-30) at Kelso.

But a 50-point strike went wrong even as layers offered him at long odds on, leading over the last in the Greatwood Gold Cup at Newbury.

The Big Bite just couldn’t lose. But he had other ideas, cocked his jaw and threw the race away.

As jockey Jon Burke tried to straighten him, I hoped some of you had cashed in our BETDAQ 14.0, as I recommended, or had had the quick wit to lay him at a late stage.

That was the Daqman plan but yours truly was transfixed at the keyboard, The Big Bite hanging so badly that I feared for the lives of the adjacent jockeys.

It was one of those dramas that go into slow motion and you just can’t move until it’s done.

LUCK ON OUR SIDE?

⭕ 2.30 Huntingdon Another bite at the cherry today and hopefully we will have luck on our side with Supremely Lucky in the beginners chase at Huntington.

The Dan Skelton trained runner has yet to sparkle over chases but brings a higher level of hurdles form to the table than his chief BETDAQ BETTING EXCHANGE rival Corrany who is making his debut over fences. The pair are rated 136 v 125 respectively so we have 11lb in hand but of course it’s never that easy ….

In this case though, we might have even more in hand! Despite the best placing efforts of Nicky Henderson, Corrany has yet to win in nine starts and that’s over a range of ground from good to heavy and in bumpers and hurdles. There’s every chance he might be better over chases, obviously, but he will need to be and his overall latent ability is fairly well exposed now.

Supremely Lucky has four career wins to his name and good to soft today should prove ideal. He was the winner of a class 3 handicap hurdle at Warwick last time out and that reads nicely in the context of this race.

He’s certainly not devoid of talent over fences. There were veterinary reasons why he performed so badly in a match at Hexham (on heavy ground) and there have been much more respectable efforts at Worcester (beaten 1/2 length) and Hereford.

Harry Skelton being back aboard is a positive – he’s been on for three of his four wins.

JUNIPER LOOKS BERRY GOOD

⭕ 3.05 Huntingdon Harry Whittington has spotted an ideal opportunity for his lightly raced Juniper to get off the mark.

The seven-year-old showed improved form on her stable debut here last week over a slightly longer trip and today’s distance looks made to measure for the mare who was just found wanting in the closing stages when beaten by the Nicky Henderson trained favourite Fable. The pair pulled nicely clear of their rivals and this doesn’t look any tougher.

Coquelicot hasn’t converted her bumper form to hurdles as yet. She’s gone off favourite in all three of her races at evens, 6/5 and 7/4 so is proving expensive to follow with a seemingly lack of pace in the closing stages characterising her early efforts over timber.

MUFFIN NO MULE

⭕ 5.00 Sedgefield I started this race looking for reasons to take Ragamuffin on but there are so many question marks against his rivals that I’ve reached the conclusion he merits a bet.

He hasn’t been seen since 18 December but has run well after an absence before and probably needed the break after five races in the space of just over two months.

It was a good spell of form too. The period included wins at Ffos Las and Bangor and Brian Hughes riding him today (for only the second time) is an obvious plus.

It’s a really moderate event. There has been early BETDAQ support for McGarry but the best he has done in his last nine starts is to be beaten 23 lengths!

DAQMAN’S BETS (staked to win 10 points)
BET 8.3pts win (nap) SUPREMELY LUCKY (2.30 Huntingdon)
BET 3.9pts win JUNIPER (3.05 Huntingdon)

What are points? Points facilitate a staking plan, which is the secret to creating profit. One point is whatever you choose: a pound, a euro, or whatever ….

Start with a bank and decide how much you can afford to lose over a period of time, and determine the size of your bets accordingly. Daqman makes this variation every day.
