TODAY: More big races at Cork, Kelso and Huntingdon

PROTEKTORAT IS READY NOW

⭕ 1.50 Huntingdon (Peterborough Chase) Ginnys Destiny and Grey Dawning have lived off each other’s reputation, one-two twice at Cheltenham but generally disappointing elsewhere.

Djelo was 10 lengths behind them in the Turners but, as he showed in November, second over too short a trip in the Haldon Gold Cup, looks ready to step up.

The Grey Dawning stable now takes Ginnys Destiny on with Protektorat, remaining over his Ryanair-winning trip and now getting the ground he didn’t have when down the field in the November Gold Cup. He is rated clear of this field at around 2-1.

BRETNEY LOOKED BIG AT 14.0

⭕ 2.05 Kelso (Scottish Borders National) Berwick trainer Sandy Thomson won this back-to-back with Neptune Equester (2014-15) and Harry The Viking (2016-18), and bids for a third double strike today when Flower Of Scotland tries to follow up his success in the last running of the race in 2022.

Thomson had a double up at the last Musselburgh meeting at the end of November. Flower Of Scotland has poor form either side of the break at huge odds (40-1 and 50-1).

Kelso is his only winning track and he’s dropped 8lb from his first strike there.
Raceview Road, only six but bred to step up in trip, is nicely in at the weights, rated 20lb below Pinot Rouge, who is a Listed hurdles winner who has tried chasing at that level already.

Your Own Story’s step up to 3m 7f+ produced success at Wetherby and, 30lb higher, a neck second in a big field at the Punchestown Festival in May.

Your Own Story (pulled up) and Flower Of Scotland (hampered 3 out, fifth) were both out of luck in the Cumberland Chase at Carlisle last month. A 3m 2f winner at Kelso, Jet Legs was 6th, Universal Folly (4th) weakened on the run-in, after winning here at Kelso (3m 2f good) in early October.

I made a note of Bretney after he made a lot of the running on his return at Bangor 25 days ago.

Just 4lb higher than when winning the Highland National at Perth on soft in the Spring. He was big at BETDAQ 14.0 this morning.

DINOBLUE CAN LEAP FORWARD

⭕ 2.15 Cork (Hilly Way Chase) One of the annual Willie Mullins stable gallops. He’s won it 15 times in the last 17 seasons, the last five all odds on, and he has six of the eight runners today.

Dual winner of this and of the Champion Chase at Cheltenham, Energumene missed last season and is 11 years old in 23 days’ time.

Ferny Hollow is unbeaten over fences but problems have seen him running just once in almost four years and, give or take those last three weeks, most of the opposition is almost nine, 10, 11

Grand Annual and Mares Chase runner-up, Dinoblue threatened to be a star last season and looks the each-way play with chase-form figures of 12221111223.

Betdaq Betting Exchange 6.9 win Dinoblue, 2.62 two places

MATATA IS THE BIG IMPROVER

⭕ 2.40 Kelso A solid class 2 with six runners quality rated between 140 and 156, three of them CD winners.

It features rivalry for favourite between the two southern raiders, Matata and Gunsight Ridge, who were one-two at Cheltenham in November until Gunsight Ridge fell when two lengths down at the last.

Matata had raised his game over the previous year’s chasing (1224021) to a 19lb higher mark and was strong favourite for the Cheltenham race. BETDAQ 3.3.

Tommy’s Oscar and Traprain Law, who fought out a one-two at Ayr in the Spring, have both been placed this autumn.

Nell’s Son won a graduation chase at Carlisle in November behind Unexpected Party who was well outpaced by Jonbon and party yesterday.
