LAY-DOWN FOR DAQMAN : HE PICKS 70% LOSING FAVOURITES: Daqman’s patience with his BETDAQ lays – only 20 this season – paid off again yesterday when he took the strike rate to 70% when he gave a 14th successful thumbs down to the favourite. This one was Sunray Major, unplaced Frankie Dettori mount in the last at Ascot. Daqman’s big winner on the day was Baaeed.
WON 2-1 BAAEED (Champions Mile)
WON (lay) 2-1 SUNRAY MAJOR (Balmoral Handicap, unplaced)
3RD 16-1 MINZAAL (Champions Sprint)
* Daqman’s Flat season ends with the two big Doncaster meetings for the Futurity on October 23 and the November Handicap on November 6. Here’s an update on his results:
DAQMAN 56, PRICEWISE 37
BULL’S-EYE NAPS 1-4 (25%)
SUPERNAPS 18-27 (69%)
LAYS LOGIC 14-20 (70%)
FORTUNE COOKIES 15-39 (39%)
MURPHY LANDS THE JOCKEYS’ TITLE WITHOUT ONE WINNER! The season is over in the jockeys’ title race. Oisin Murphy (153 wins but none yesterday) is champion for a third time after beating William Buick (151). The trainer’s battle goes on to the end of the year, with Charlie Appleby half a million in prizemoney ahead of John and Thady Gosden.
BOLD BAAEED: NOT TOO FAR, JIM!
A horse called ‘far away’ (Baaeed) was my champion yesterday. He won his seventh race out of seven when outrunning them in the QE 11 champions mile, after Jim Crowley outmanoeuvred the field including Frankie Dettori on Palace Pier.
Frankie was still smarting from being pushed out wide on Stradivarius in the Long Distance Cup, in which another sufferer was Hamish, knocked into the rails and gradually eased out of it.
In the handicap to finish the day, Dettori was drawn wide and, though he managed to get across to the favoured far rail, had nothing left to stop the William Haggas yard following up Baaeed with another winner, Aldaary, for a hat-trick on the day by Jim Crowley.
As well as Baaeed, Crowley had won the Fillies And Mares on Eshaada, in which the odds-on Aidan O’Brien favourite, Snowfall, was only third.
O’Brien pulled out Bolshoi Ballet from the Champion Stakes after Mother Earth also flopped in the QE11 for a 38th consecutive Ballydoyle loser.
Next year Adayar who, along with Mishriff, failed to give his running in the Champion Stakes, stays in training. So, too, of course, Baaeed. Dubai Honour now joins the top rank.
Adayar’s flop after the Arc will further prompt calls to bring the French race forward but it didn’t stop Sealiway who had been fifth in the Arc, one place behind Adayar.
Goodbye It’s a definite goodbye to Palace Pier (going to stud) and to Lady Bowthorpe (going to paddocks), who was a game third to Baaeed. Maybe they should get together!
Horses to follow In the last two weeks, Rhoscolyn could find a prize. Did not start well (blindfold left on late) but came with a rattle and only run out of it in the final furlong behind Aldaary.
MALAYAN TOO BIG AT BETDAQ 16.0
⭕ 2.15 Naas Naas is the only Flat turf meeting in England and Ireland today. Malayan could bounce back for this 70,000-euro sales race, coming out of stall 4 with low numbers usually dominant.
Took too keen a hold looking for black type in a Leopardstown Listed the last day; the blinkers are removed and she is too big at 16.0 on BETDAQ..
Colin Keane, who rode Malayan to back-to-back strikes in August, is on the other side of the track in stall 19 on Corporal Violette. A form line through Eurocrat gives her a lot to do with Malayan but she has had just one run and could improve on that.
Also low drawn are the Jessica Harrington pair, Tut Tut (from the one stall), well beaten by Malayan in a Curragh nursery, and Nectaris (3), who was behind Malayan at Roscommon.
⭕ 4.35 Naas This sprint usually favours high numbers but Verhoyen (from the one stall) looks a long way clear on ability, rating 91 where nine of this field can’t cap 80.
I took 10.0 on BETDAQ this morning, after he was punted with Corals and Ladbrokes at 14-1. Down to 8.2 in the BETDAQ orange at one time: I’ll claim the middle price.
I backed Blairmayne on the far side (stall 2) at this venue in May, and he was beaten half a length on the far side with Half Nutz the winner out of 17 (so it can be done). Fourth home, Verhoyen (stall 4) is worse off with both today.
But it would soon become clear that Verhoyen was prepping for a big handicap at the Curragh later in May, which he won very easily from Pretty Boy Floyd.
Move forward to the autumn and Pretty Boy Floyd scores over the minimum at the Curragh last week, the day after Verhoyen attempts the Coral Sprint at York but fades in the final furlong, drawn on the wrong side.
STREAK TRIES KEMPTON HAT-TRICK
⭕ 2.05 Kempton Irish bumper winner Cobblers Dream, French hurdles scorer Balko Saint against ex-French Tulin and American-bred Hammersmith, who is a front-running winner at Galway.
Balko Saint is the best price at 3.9 on BETDAQ but, in an orange totalling only 102%, you can back whatever you fancy confident that you’re getting value.
⭕ 3.15 Kempton Perhaps this Listed hurdle is the race of the day, if you like that sort of thing.
You have Alan King, fresh from his triumph with Trueshan, sending out Sceau Royal on his seasonal debut. He has won five times after a break.
But Silver Streak has won this race as his first run back for two years running. Both beat Teqany in consecutive races last autumn.
Sceau Royal was winning his first two races of 2020 – both over hurdles – when he disposed of Teqany in a Grade 2 (the Elite) at Wincanton in November, which he’ll probably go for again.
Silver Streak has gone on from this race to finish second in the Grade-1 Christmas Hurdle here at Kempton 2019 (to Epatante) and then to win it in 2020 (beating Epatante).
Sceau Royal has been chasing since, again winning only in Grade 2 (last win a Grade-1 chase in nearly four years back. I took 1.84 Silver Streak.

What are points? Points facilitate a staking plan, which is the secret to creating profit. One point is whatever you choose: a pound, a euro, or whatever ….
Start with a bank and decide how much you can afford to lose over a period of time, and determine the size of your bets accordingly. Daqman makes this variation every day.
