20-1 FOR DAQMAN ON DOUBLE-THE-MONEY BETDAQ: Baaeed was beaten at 1-4 in the Champion Stakes yesterday but BETDAQ remains unbeatable. Daqman was able to take 20-1 about the winner of the race, Bay Bridge, who was half that, 10-1, at SP. Daqman had opposed another hot favourite, Inspiral and alert players were able to lay her when she sweated up.

Champions Day: Saturday
WON 10-1 BAY BRIDGE (from 21.0 taken on BETDAQ)
WON 11-8 TRUESHAN (Fortune Cookies’ one-two with 10-1 Coltrane )

Friday: profit on the day 11.50
WON 5-1 AL MUBHIR (nap)

13.0 OUTSIDER IN DAQMAN’S IRISH BETS TODAY: Daqman wraps up the Champions Day meeting before finding some banker bets at Naas and Kempton, plus a 13.0 outsider of great promise.

BAAEED IS STRIPPED OF HIS TITLE

Two ‘world champions’ crashed yesterday. Baaeed was ’unbeatable’ at 1-4 for the Champion Stakes at Ascot and 9-10 favourite, Nature Strip, ‘only had to go to post’ for the £8m Everest at Royal Randwick. Both finished only fourth.

Nature Strip, who had won the Kings Stand at Royal Ascot and topped the world rankings list just behind Baaeed, faded in the final few yards to Giga Kick, trained by 27-year-old Clayton Douglas.

US Pacific Classic winner, Flightline, is now top rated 139, only a pound behind Frankel, and will take on allcomers in the Breeders’ Cup Classic.

Baaeed’s kick was missing on the slow ground at Ascot: ‘it just wasn’t there when I pressed the button’, said Jim Crowley, a result which hands the trainers’ title to Charlie Appleby.

The Champion Stakes accolade went to master placer of horses, Sir Michael Stoute, who got Bay Bridge right on the day, just as he had hit target on the day with Desert Crown in the Derby. Daqman was on both!

Future generations will look back on the title race between William Haggas and Charlie Appleby, and say, yes, but didn’t two veteran training knights draw swords and mug them when it mattered.

For, apart from Sir Michael’s sensational Derby and Champion Stakes double, Sir Mark Prescott bagged the Arc de Triomphe with Alpinista.

There was talk of the 2023 Arc after Emily Upjohn went clear in the Fillies And Mares yesterday but I question the veracity of the race, since the second and third were 50-1 and 80-1 ‘no-hopers’.

I thought I’d got the QEII Champions Mile when my nap, Modern Games, edged in front of Jadoomi but on the far rail Bayside Boy whistled by in the blinkers which had suited him so well at Sandown last month.

I had opposed Inspiral in my column and quickly spread my play when Inspiral sweated badly before the start. All credit to ITV paddock brains for spotting it but there was no betting input.

No one wanted to give the exchanges a mention but some of you realised your wallets were threatened if you did not reach for your BETDAQ account and at least save stakes.

Inspiral didn’t budge off 11-10, despite the gift of a lay, and finished five-lengths sixth.

MORE EASY BUCKS FOR BOWEN

⭕ 2.40 Sedgefield Peter Bowen took Easy Bucks from Welsh Wales up to Perth in September to get the good ground, which he could get again here – good to soft at worse, which he’s won on twice – facing a 13-year-old, Chase The Wind, and a local youngster, Atomic Angel, who still lacks fluency at her fences.

Larry Looby’s bubble seemed to burst the last day at Hexham, 26lb higher than when a winning sequence in small fields began.

BETDAQ value 2.46 Easy Bucks

⭕ 2.55 Naas Toy, sister to Gleneagles and runner-up in the Irish Oaks, plummets from a losing sequence of four Group-1s, back to a mile, for this big-field fillies’ and mares’ Listed, taken on by Flame Of Eire, who has set up a winning sequence of four in handicaps.

Since the pair are coming out of stalls 3 and 6 of 20 runners, they also have to contend with Kevin Prendergast’s Mehnah (2) who has won a similar race at Killarney.

After a weekend of odds-on flops, Believeinmiracles (7), beaten four lengths in a Group 3 at Gowran, would be an appropriate winner, but I’m guessing that Wayne Lordan will Toy with the opposition, up there from the start and exert down the rail before the first turn.

SCEAU ROYAL RATES A SUPERNAP

⭕ 3.25 Longchamp This Group 2 in Paris, usually dominated by second and third season horses, is a match between Addeybb for William Haggas and Tom Marquand and the La Coupe winner, Monty, aged seven and eight years old.

⭕ 4.00 Kempton Alan King’s classy servant Sceau Royal, who opened last season by winning this hurdle, should continue the stable’s return to form.

He has nothing like last year’s task when he had to stop a hat-trick bid in this race by Silver Streak, who had won the Grade-1 Christmas Hurdle at Kempton the year before.

13.0 SIDIRIYA COULD IMPROVE

⭕ 3.30 Naas Another Listed, a longer trip (1m 4f almost) which Term of Endearment should appreciate, after an eyecatching finish over shorter in a Gowran Group 3.

Another three-year-old, Irish Lullaby, is back to her winning trip at Galway, after being pipped over 1m 6f at Haydock.

The five-year-old mare Yaxeni gave weight and a comfortable beating to younger horses at Galway under Colin Keane.

But the Dermot Weld runner-up could give him a line to Sidiriya, who was breaking her maiden at Galway around that time. She is by Nathaniel, who stepped up dramatically from his maiden to place in the Chester Vase and win the King George within weeks.

BETDAQ value 13.0 Sidiriya
