FLAT OUT ON THE TURF: They’re off on the turf in a new Flat season, the Irish launch given credence to English punters as the Curragh’s own Lincolnshire Handicap is run on the opening day.

SPRING DOUBLE PREVIEWS: Look out for Daqman preview stats and stories on the start of the English Flat scene at Doncaster (Lincoln Handicap March 29) and the Grand National on April 5.

MAY THE FORCE BE WITH YOU..

⭕ 3.45 Curragh (Irish Lincolnshire): From Rio de Janeiro to training a 2,000 Guineas winner in Norway, the new man alongside Ralph Beckett at the Lambourn Amo base, Raphael Freire, saddles a previous winner of today’s big race.

Raadobarg won it in 2022 when trained by Johnny Murtagh, and was third last year for George Boughey.

Raadobarg is 10lb lower now from stall 14, and can turn the tables on runner-up that day, Smooth Tom (4).

Amo Racing also runs one officially 8lb higher than Raadobarg in Crypto Force out of Adrian Murray’s Westmeath yard, which has been firing at Dundalk, with current form figures 12101.

A class act as his 10st top-weight suggests, Crypto Force has run eight races in the Pattern, two in Group 1. This is his first handicap.

Only four lengths off St Leger winner Continuous here in a Curragh Group-3 the last day but has generally disappointed since winning the Beresford there as a juvenile.

High numbers have won the last two Lincolnshires on heavy ground and Crypto Force comes out of gate 7 but he drops back in distance and no harm in him working for his position.

Rhythm King (stall 17) found his form in the autumn, including over today’s CD, when he beat Gleneagle Bay (in 3 today) and Orandi (27), with Indigo Five (15) 5th.

Gleneagle Bay is well in now, and Dublin trainer Stephen Thorne is in form with current figures of 1113 on AW at Dundalk, but the low draw is a negative.

Place punters will note that, though up to 12b higher than his last winning form, Orandi has finished 332223, including in big fields like this one.

Thunder Roar (24), also well drawn and beaten a neck in a cavalry charge at York, has had a recent run, as have Cheers Again (21) and Fleetfoot (29), whose Jim Bolger stable is often early.

Casanova (22 for Ado McGuinness) and Earls (23 Gavin Cromwell), who start side by side, finished a neck apart when 4th and 5th in last year’s Lincolnshire, two lengths behind Raadobarg from low draws.

Betdaq Betting Exchange early offers 6.7 Raadobarg, 12 Thunder Roar, 13 Fleetfoot, 19.5 Crypto Force

SANGSTER TAKES REPEAT ROAD

⭕ 1.33 Saint-Cloud (Prix Exbury): Map Of Stars – three wins from four starts – can continue the early form of Francis Graffard, who has had half a dozen winners in the last two weeks. James Doyle booked.

⭕ 3.25 Saint-Cloud: Ollie Sangster took Glamis Road to Saint-Cloud in November and made virtually all in a Listed on heavy ground.

One of those she beat, Iron Bird, who runs again today, had finished third in the prestigious Prix Miesque a couple of weeks earlier.

A Listed winner in Cologne, moved from Marcel Weiss to Francis Graffard, Goldaue looks a threat today.

SERIOUS PLANNING FOR ‘CHAT’

⭕ 3.57 Market Rasen: I was pleased to see ‘the forgotten champion’ Brian Hughes get the call from Nicky Henderson for Doddiethegreat in the Pertemps Final at Cheltenham.

In a typical Hughes power ride, Doddie led on the turn and saw off the challengers to win well, ridden out.

Brian’s strongest support stable was always Donald McCain’s, and he was two from four on Serious Chat before Christmas.

McCain made no secret of his plan to improve Serious Chat over shorter distances before stepping him up to three miles or so. That day has come, following a holiday and a wind op. BETDAQ value 4.8 this morning.

⭕ 4.32 Market Rasen The money came for Moonlit Potter this morning, with the mare back to form at home after a break.
