SUNDAY FLAT MEETINGS ABANDONED: Sunday racing is reduced to the Jumps at Stratford and Newton Abbot, after both the Curragh and Redcar were rained off.
MOORE POWER SAVES FAVOURITE
IT was a 9️⃣9️⃣9️⃣-1 call! Ryan Moore looked beaten, desperately trying to get something more – literally – out of the odds-on Irish Oaks favourite as she seemingly struggled in fourth yesterday.
Exchanged at the ultimate, 1,000 in running, Savethelastdance got a second wind inside the final furlong and gave Aidan O’Brien his seventh Curragh Oaks victory, surpassing Michael Stoute’s six and putting the FORTUNE COOKIE filly in line for a crack at the St Leger.
Though the winner’s stablemate Library set the pace, it was so slow and stuck in the mud, that the time of the race was 10.5 secs below par but, though she struggled with the poor pace, ‘Dance’ finally showed her courage and class.
Earlier at the Curragh, Daqman dared a 10.0 BETDAQ win-and-place nap in the 20-runner Scurry sprint but Aussie Girl, gambled down to 9-2 favourite, was pipped half-a-length after leading until 110 yards out.
Emily Dickinson, dropped as a Fortune Cookie, revelled in the conditions as they deteriorated and completed an O’Brien-Moore treble on the day in the Curragh Cup, slow by 16.8 secs. One that got away.
PLAY UP BOWEN AT STRATFORD
SEAN BOWEN has jumped into an early lead in the jockeys’ race, with 58 winners (28%) and the bonus for punters that he’s showing a level-stakes profit of 23 points. That’s after a 128-point profit for the entire season, 2022-23.
Champion Brian Hughes and Harry Cobden are trailing for winners by 26 and 22 but, for value, don’t ignore Sam Twiston-Davies, who is 59 points up, and Bridget Andrews (+55).
⭕ 2.52 Stratford Sean Bowen could score again on Saxon Queen, given plenty of time to avoid the ‘bounce’ factor, after two quick races, following a long absence, success on the last day at Newton Abbot over today’s marathon trip.
⭕ 3.22 Stratford Bowen on CD-winner Sir Tivo goes head to head with champion Hughes on Blueberry Wine in what could be a hectic handicap chase.
Front-runner Mercian Prince is a tearaway at Kempton (six wins there); out of form since the Spring but likely to set up the race for Sir Tivo, a winner five times under Bowen, including here last summer.
Cracking Destiny is also a CD winner but has never put two wins together and the stable has slipped out of form (0-10).
Blueberry Wine is up 13lb all told for a fine sequence (112), including success on the Mildmay course at Aintree last month.
Romanor is not out of it, as the stayer of the party, likely to relish Mercian Prince’s pace, assuming that’s the way of the race. Check out the movement on BETDAQ, since I logged these best offers:
Betdaq Betting Exchange 3.35 Sir Tivo, 4.3 Romanor, 5.3 Blueberry Wine
FERGAL FANCIED FOR A DOUBLE
⭕ 3.52 Stratford Current leading trainer Fergal O’Brien, consistently striking at 25%, has one runner here and one at Newton Abbot 13 minutes later.
Just time to adjust your stake and bet Landen Calling (4.05 Newton Abbot) as the redeemer if Carrigeen Kampala has failed to contain Donald McCain’s Titanium Moon (Hughes) here at Stratford. Both have completed a hat-trick.
⭕ 3.35 Newton Abbot Sean Bowen misses the ride, after form figures of 221 aboard Jack The Farmer, and in-form Nigel Hawke calls on David Noonan.
He gets more than a stone from Nickelsonthedime but faces Paul Nicholls and Harry Cobden with their only runner of the day, Sandalwood.
Whereas Stratford weather is forecast stable, more rain is forecast for Newton Abbot, which was already good to soft this morning.

What are points? Points facilitate a staking plan, which is the secret to creating profit. One point is whatever you choose: a pound, a euro, or whatever ….
Start with a bank and decide how much you can afford to lose over a period of time, and determine the size of your bets accordingly. Daqman makes this variation every day.
