RACE-READER RUBY A GEM..

The week Ascot went American. The 7f and mile races were run like sprints and the sprinters over 5f and 6f ran like quarter-horses, most of them barely getting 4f as mounted cavalry.

As a result there were winners at 150-1, 80-1, 50-1, 33-1, 25-1, 22-1, 20-1, 16-1, 14-1.. to name but a few, as they say.

I watched the right-royal pantomime on ITV, oblivious to the roar of the greasepaint. Because I turned the volume down between races.

That’s not quite true. I kept the sound turned up until after each video assessment by Ruby Walsh. The man is a scientist among car salesmen.

He was given the briefest of video briefs: tell the mugs out there what went wrong with their money and why; you have 60 seconds; GO!

Ruby should have an entire programme of Ascot analysis; in fact, for race assessment every day. But I’m sure the bookies wouldn’t want to sponsor the education of punters.

And whatever would we do without the embarrassment of interviews, and the regimen of bad tips and old jokes in Operation Cameraderie under field-marshal Big Ed? All to make losing a delight; indeed an honour in front of king and queen.

I got fed up with losing, once I realised that I was flogging myself like a dog over duff-form study when races of 20 or 30 runners were breaking from the gates like greyhounds from the slips.

I went once more to the breach, dear friends, with the wisdom of hindsight and bagged some big guns (hope you were on). More about Ruby in my Ascot wrap tomorrow.

⭕ 4.45 Pontefract Results by stall (10 years) 2, 3, 1, 8, 1, 2, 5, 6, 5, 1, and the inside draw boosts Caius Chorister in the one stall if he repeats his all-the-way City And Suburban attempt at Epsom.

He was beaten to the line (1m 2f, soft) that day, and front-running wasn’t his way when he set up a winning sequence of five strikes last summer, including two at Epsom.

Firm ground helps but being lofted 42lb in the ratings for that sequence certainly doesn’t, though he’s tried gallantly back at Epsom twice, carrying 97 and 99 where he had 62 and 68 a year or so back!

If I were David Egan, I’d give Voodoo Queen her head out of gate 5; she likes to race prominently and proved the last day that she stays further than this.

Like Voodoo Queen, Sea Flawless (4) drops from a Group start but she was nowhere near as promising, and meets these at levels, despite a rating of 88, which is 10lb inferior to Caius Chorister and Voodoo Queen.

Betdaq Betting Exchange 5.5 Voodoo Queen

KEATLEY FINDS ANOTHER HIT

⭕ 5.15 Pontefract (Pontefract Cup) Flint Hill and Haizoom, second and fourth in this last year, separated more than four lengths, resume rivalry at the same weights difference.

Neither has improved in the ratings; nor has hat-trick seeking Blow Your Horn, who tries this trip for the first time.

Cold Henry, once a 59, is back up to 60 after a double at Catterick off 49 and 53 on soft ground.
I shall have my pound on Adamaris. He just might get a new lease off life, first run for a new yard, that of the super-inform Adrian Keatley (currently 5-10). BETDAQ value 9.8.

⭕ 5.45 Pontefract Sir Michael Stoute has a 27% strike rate at Ponty, and his three-year-old Fox Journey is well drawn and gets more than a stone from his rivals in the market. BETDAQ 3.3.

BETDAQ 8.8? NOT TOO FAR..

⭕ 6.45 Pontefract Ghathanfar was super game to get the break from gate 4 and take middle ground before the turn, unstoppable in this last year.

He’s dropped 10lb in his last eight starts but goes for a repeat from the 10 stall. Can he get a position and tough it out again?

Just Frank, third run for Tim Easterby, is 10lb below his last winning mark, and has the lucky gate 4, where the last two winners have come from.

Fools Rush In (out of 7), down in the weights and encouraging the last day when dropped to this trip by new trainer Jim Goldie. Tom Marquand booked.

BETDAQ value 8.8 Ghathanfar, 16.5 Fools Rush In

What are points? Points facilitate a staking plan, which is the secret to creating profit. One point is whatever you choose: a pound, a euro, or whatever ….

Start with a bank and decide how much you can afford to lose over a period of time, and determine the size of your bets accordingly. Daqman makes this variation every day.
