THREE BETS ON SUNDAY: Daqman’s King George wrap is followed by three selections for the day at Pontefract and Uttoxeter, backed on BETDAQ so that one winner creates cover for the day.
TOMORROW: Daqman’s Monday Club and Goodwood preview.
MADNESS OF KING GEORGE
It all went pear-shaped at Ascot yesterday. I mean the barely-tolerable tactics in one big race, and the diminution of another.
Enter into racing folklore the Ballydoyle Wall, with the supposed pacemaker Continuous running second on the girth of his stablemate, the favourite, Jan Brueghel, blocking the way together but clearly not creating a finish for either of them.
Rebels Romance was the sufferer, locked in on the rails. But first Oisin Murphy on the filly Kalpana, then Mickael Barzalona on Calandagan said ‘thankyou very much’ and winged round the ‘wall’ in turn.
Calandagan got on top and followed in the hoofprints of the Graffard stable’s Goliath who was crowned king last year. But the hero of the hour cannot run in the Arc because ‘he’ is a gelding.
Kalpana improved the proverbial ton, looking for one moment as if she had stolen the prize and is now Arc favourite.
But it all left a taste in the mouth and, though Kalpana lived up to my expectations and holds out hope of another filly winning the Arc – after Enable, Alpinista and Bluestocking – it also leaves the Longchamp race missing its rightful star.
IT ALL POINTS TO LYNAS
⭕ 2.55 Pontefract Point Lynas won this mile Listed last year and has been within a length of the winner in Group 2 and Group 3 since.
It’s dry weather again just as they also drop Prague from Group races in the hope of soft ground or at least a decent bit of cut.
Make Me King’s last mile success was on very soft at Deauville; Cicero’s Gift scored in a soft-ground Sandown handicap, and Checkandchallenge hasn’t won since it was heavy on the Rowley Mile course in November 2023.
That seems to leave Boiling Point as the only danger to Point Lynas but he has never won beyond 7f.
SEVEN UP FOR EASTERBY
⭕ 3.25 Pontefract Tim Easterby farms this race with an unbeaten run of five wins since 2019 (six altogether since 2014) yet none has started favourite!
All five recent winners were ridden by David Allan, who steers the stable’s Masekela in the race today (BETDAQ 9.0 taken).
The once-upon-a-time winner of a Newbury Listed when rated 107 has plummeted to 66. Beaten a head at Hamilton and favourite (fourth) at Ripon, both runs in May, and unplaced since.
Pol Roger loves Ayr and Dawn Of Liberation is high in the handicap, but blinkers may awaken Looks Fantastic from the in-form Bethell yard.
SAINT’S A LIVE HOPE…
⭕ 3.37 Uttoxeter Two hat-trick-winning horses are bidding to keep this prize in the family!
Will the four-timer go to Keel Strand, trained by Paul Nicholls? Or will it go to Saint Bibiana, to be saddled by his ex-wife Georgina and ridden by daughter, Olive?
Keel Strand is the young improver: just five-years-old and favourite every time to win three novice hurdles on the trot. Another positive of course is stable jockey Harry Cobden.
Paul has a 43% strike rate with 15 winners this season and Georgina 31% with five.
Olive takes 7lb off Saint Bibiana ( Betdaq Betting Exchange 4.5) who also has course advantage.
The mare was a CD winner for a claimer the last day, and the time before scored over further with Olive in the saddle.

Start with a bank and decide how much you can afford to lose over a period of time, and determine the size of your bets accordingly. Daqman makes this variation every day.
