DAQMAN SCORES A 40-1 BULL’S-EYE AND HIS NAP WINS AT 13-2: Daqman landed two 50-point bull’s-eye strikes out of three yesterday at 40-1 and 13-2 and the third bet, Symphony Perfect (47.0 on BETDAQ) was second, beaten half a length, at 22-1. The 13-2 winner was his first bull’s-eye nap of the season and runaway Irish Oaks heroine Snowfall was his sixth Fortune Cookie and ninth Supernap.

⭕ 2.10 The Curragh (Minstrel Stakes) Ken Condon has pencilled in his Jean Prat winner, Laws Of Indices, for a Group 2 at the York International meeting next month.
Interesting to see if his experiment with Affable (5.30 on this card) – dropping back to 6f and 7f after a career at around 1m 2f – will continue to pay off, now resorting to the minimum 5f.
Meanwhile, he’s hoping for better from Thunder Beauty in a first-time visor for this Minstrel Stakes. Three-year-olds beat the older horses in this three times in seven seasons and Condon is going for a hat-trick in the race after back-to-back success with Romanised. Thunder Beauty ran well in the Moyglare over today’s trip as a juvenile.
Ballydoyle relies on Order Of Australia, disappointing since a 40-1 winner of the Breeders Cup Mile (firm). His best home form was fourth in the 2020 Irish Derby.
It’s a tough call but, with the cards face down, I’ll shuffle the second-season pack and hope Ace Aussie is the turn card.
He came from a long way back to get within a length and a half of the subsequent Classic winner when runner-up to Poetic Flare in the Leopardstown 2,000 Guineas Trial.

WHO KNOWS THE WINNER AT 17.0
⭕ 2.50 Chantilly (Prix Robert Papin) In its Group-1 days (up to 1986), the Robert Papin threw up stars like Blushing Groom and Ma Biche.
More recently, as a Group 2, it has been a pointer to the Newmarket 1,000 Guineas for French fillies (the grey Natagora 2007) and Special Duty (2009).
But the last seven years it has been dominated by English raiders, and Kevin Ryan’s Atomic Force, already a Group-3 winner over the Chantilly CD (beat Black Lives Matter five lengths), again has Stephane Pasquier in the saddle.
George Boughey, whose Hellomydarlin was swamped by the impressive Sandrine at Royal Ascot, books journeyman Jamie Spencer for the ride.
But, if a filly is to win this time, it’s more likely to be Who Knows, also a CD winner, or Diablotine (2-2 over 5f).
Of the colts, Papa Don’t Preach was narrowly beaten by David Evan’s smart sprinter Choux at Deauville but I don’t fancy him to match strides early with Tipperary Sunset, an all-the-way 5f winner in England twice before changing hands for £200,000 from John Quinn to Pascal Bary.
Atomic Force’s wins also came from the front so there will be plenty of pace on. With fillies again looking dominant among the youngsters, I’ll try Who Knows. She showed a power finish here the last day.

ROUGIR READY TO OUTCLASS THEM
⭕ 3.25 Chantilly (Prix Chloe) Dubai out of a Shamardal mare usually guarantees improvement but Charlie Appleby’s gritty little Creative Flair only just got home at Newbury, helped by a first-time hood.
She is cleverly placed here, dropped back a furlong, but the in-form Andre Fabre has the tactical options with two, Noticeable Grace (2-2 this season) and Gold Haze, a Compiegne winner who has been rested.
Though Rougir has failed the Classic tests of French 1,000 Guineas and Oaks (but only a length and a half off Joan of Arc) and, granted a strong pace, can score on this drop down in grade.
I’m sure veteran jockey Gerard Mosse, who takes over for the first time today, would love to steer her to redemption in this Group 3.

COURTLAND JUMPS LIKE A NATURAL
⭕ THE NAP (1.30 Newton Abbot) After a great day like yesterday, the weekend takes a nose-dive in betting opportunities.
But it’s business as usual for tipsters, as it is for trainers like Peter Bowen, who bagged the big Summer Plate chase at Market Rasen with Francky Du Berlais.
As I warned, going first into the straight at Rasen is asking for trouble, so I’m not going to write off Captain Tom Cat, who faded into fifth.
I’ll follow the Bowen form stable today and hope to land the nap with Courtland, who looked a natural for fences when cruising to victory at Ffos Las.
Tomorrow Mystery is the obvious threat, as a representative of the Paul Nicholls’ teams which did so well for us with Scaramanga.
But it will be a mystery if this one wins after looking very novicey at Worcester and already resorting to cheekpieces and tongue-tie. No doubt a candidate for the Ditcheat vet for a wind job.
