DAQMAN NAPS HAT-TRICK IN A HURRY: Daqman completed a hat-trick of naps when, after 9-2 and 7-2 winners on Thursday and Friday, he upped the ante to supernap level for maximum stakes on L’Homme Presse (‘man in a hurry’) at Cheltenham yesterday. It took him to an overall 62 points profit in the three days at BETDAQ value offers.

WON 4-5 L’HOMME PRESSE (supernap)
WON 7-2 MOON D’ORANGE

FRIDAY: Profit on the day: 18 points
WON 7-2 SALT ROCK (nap)
WON 2-1 LOVERDOSE

THURSDAY: Profit on the day: 22 points
WON 9-2 NICK ROCKETT (nap)
WON 100-30 WILLIAM DEWHIRST
WON (w/p 2nd 50-1) WOLF MOON

CHAMPION WINS ON HIS KNEES

IT goes down as a blunder. But Constitution Hill’s ‘heart in the mouth’ clamber over the last at Cheltenham yesterday was almost a £71k giveaway of the International Hurdle prize by jockey Nico De Boinville.

Nico let slack the reins just before the final hurdle and, with no other message to the hot favourite – no nudge or squeeze, no hand or heel – left his mount to make his own split-second decision.

Hill’s heart and Nico’s too missed a beat as half a ton of racehorse put in half a stride extra and clambered over the hurdle with his knees.

De Boinville admitted: “He’s found a way to score in front of the thousands who came to see him but I’m angry with myself. He was doing it so easily; didn’t even blow out a candle afterwards.”

That candle was sputtering as trainer Nicky Henderson heaved such a sigh of relief that it was audible and gave rise to the paddock observation: ‘When is that man ever going to have an easy run with his super-horses..’

But his close rival, Paul Nicholls, was blinking in the headlights of a trials day when dreams turn to dust.

Sauvignon pulled up, scarcely at the races, as East India Dock romped away with the Triumph Trial, and joint-fav Ginny’s Destiny was yet again a let-down in the handicap chase, won in another final-fence drama.

Moon D’Orange grabbed the race with a rapid run from the rear but skewed through the last and Sean Bowen had to fight back to take the £56k premier-chase packet for John McConnell.

DOUBLE BOOST FOR JAKANA

⭕ 2.40 Sedgefield Making a 460-mile round trip on a solo mission North, Jakana was well worth a bet at 2.35 on BETDAQ this morning on the strength of her making almost all at Southwell the last day.

The runner-up, who she turned over at odds on, slammed a 16-runner field on the final day of 2024 under Nico De Boinville, and the third mare home beat 14 others next time out at Taunton.

Pressure at the front of the market came from money for Vanilla Dancer, seven times in the first four but without winning.

Tried to make all at Catterick but overhauled by one previously beaten a total of 101 lengths in three maiden hurdles.

Maybe punters a bit put off Jakana because of the ground. Be assured that her daddy won the Irish Derby in the mud; her dam did the same in a bumper at Navan and her sire landed a Group hat-trick on Longchamp soft.

SURELY A LEADING CHANCE

⭕ 2.50 Fontwell Trainer Robert Walford and jockey Harry Kimber are on a high after Loverdose landed a Friday feature over hurdles at Sandown.

They have guided Leading Swoop to two close seconds and a third at Fontwell and none will be trying harder to lift this chase and break the nine-year-old’s duck in the rain there today.

The top two in the handicap, Proper Twelve and Fame And Fun, need better ground and the bottom three are out of the handicap.

Sir Rock, who has failed to complete the last twice, tries to back up his win in this race last year with a visor after a wind op. He won this race last year, giving 2lb to the staying-on second.

That runner-up, having his first race under rules over fences, was none other than Leading Swoop, now 4lb better off.

GOOD MORNING, CAPTAIN!

⭕ 3.50 Fontwell Though dropped a grade, Grove Road couldn’t quite last out, returned to fences on the last day of 2024 and the four-time hurdles winner is now 0-7 over the bigger obstacles.

Samourai One just held on at Fakenham from Fern Hill, though in receipt of 16lb and with the second horse a dismal 1-17 as a chaser.

Connections clearly feel that it’s a good opportunity for Captain Claude, a back-to-back winner here at a similar time in 2023-4.

Today is the first of 19 starts that he’s been ridden by a senior jockey and his first run in a visor. Betdaq Betting Exchange value 6.5 this morning.

What are points? Points facilitate a staking plan, which is the secret to creating profit. One point is whatever you choose: a pound, a euro, or whatever ….

Start with a bank and decide how much you can afford to lose over a period of time, and determine the size of your bets accordingly. Daqman makes this variation every day.
