14-1 STRIKE WINS 50 FOR DAQMAN: Geronimo! Daqman whooped it up at Cheltenham and Doncaster yesterday with two big-race winners, one a bull’s-eye bet at 18.5 on BETDAQ (14-1 SP), to take his profit over the Friday and Saturday big-race meetings to 38.50, maintaining his record of at least one winner a day over six days.
WON 14-1 GEROMINO (Saturday BETDAQ 18.5)
WON 11-8 BROADWAY BOY (Saturday)
WON 3-1 LATENIGHTPASS (Friday)
WON 11-10 HEROS (Thursday)
WON 5-2 INTERVENTION (Wednesday)
WON 11-4 SAVVY BRILLIANCE (Tuesday)
WON 8-13 JEUNE BELLE (Monday nap)
HE’S TROUNCING PRICEWISE 11-3: Both Geromino and Broadway Boy were lined up for Daqman against Pricewise who won an earlier race with Fugitif, so the score is now 11-3 to Daqman, who is over 390 points ahead, with returns of +241.50 to Daqman and -150 to Pricewise (10pt level stakes).
THE HANDICAPPER’S WORRIED
⭕ 1.10 Navan The 2m 4f Tara Hurdle has never really matched its early heights as the race that belonged to Limestone Lad (three wins in four years) and Solerina (three consecutive). It was downgraded a few seasons back.
Gordon Elliott wants to know if Shannon Royale can continue as the ‘different horse’ Jack Kennedy declared he was with cheekpieces applied, first time in a maiden hurdle at Punchestown late last month.
The handicapper has taken no chances, giving him an opening mark of 130, a rating 11lb and more higher than other five-year-olds in this Listed.
Harvard Guy improved to win over the CD here at Navan nearly a month back and Carnfunnock has been out of the four only once, with three wins, in the last year.
Clarens ran second in a big-field Navan handicap a month ago, which was a step back in the right direction after he’d been hiked for a hat-trick when he was only four. Loves this ground.
HE IS MORE THAN A FUN BET
⭕ 2.00 Thurles When a trainer says ‘she’ll be a fun horse for the owners,’ they are warning us that she could win a couple of races, not let the side down exactly, but unlikely to do great things.
However, Fun Fun Fun has already provided triple the fun (with form of 11041) and over £65k in prizemoney for Willie Mullins’ stable without so much as running a single race outside maiden company over hurdles!
She won two bumpers, including a Grade 2, and made all to break her hurdles maiden at the first attempt on the last day of November.
That was here at Thurles and it’s a wise move in the mare’s education to, firstly, return to the scene of her success and, secondly, do so in a Listed with an eye to her future in the paddocks.
But, forgive me, I haven’t properly introduced you. Her huge potential is added excitement for her owners, and for we who can only try to pick the layers’ pockets as we watch her progress.
Fun Fun Fun is the first Martaline foal out of a Presenting mare called Ocean Breeze, a half-sister to the high-class Yorkhill, with further down the distaff line the quality chaser, The Listener.
VENETIA IN TWO-HORSE RAID
⭕ 1.35 and 2.10 Carlisle Venetia Williams run of six winners from seven, still standing, ended with two placed third in the big chases at Cheltenham yesterday.
Carlisle is one of her top tracks and she has two chances here at odds to put together for a fair return.
The yard had high hopes of Christopher Wood (1.35), a slick jumper, but he wasn’t getting home, which should not be a problem after his wind op.
He’s won twice and been placed three times when fresh after a break; has the surface he likes and is expected to gain ground with his jumping over the stiff Carlisle fences.
Ramo (2.10) didn’t get into the race, raised in class and trip at Newbury. This Pertemps qualifier should see him return to progressive form, as a young horse getting a stone from both Howlingmadmurdock and Prairie Dancer.
DANCER TO SHOW OFF IN FRONT
⭕ 3.00 Southwell Walk Of No Shame found Oakley Dancer easy meat on her hurdles debut in February.
But, for shame, the winner has been beaten favourite twice since, placed five out of six (2032223) and her rating has remained static, around 106, 107.
Oakley Dancer is a big mare who has needed time but found her feet with two front-running victories before having a break and then getting bogged down in heavy ground at Leicester.
Sean Bowen will surely apply Oakley Dancer’s aptitude to front-run on the very track in England where that style is so often a winning one. Betdaq Betting Exchange 2.76 taken.
