LEAD EXTENDED: Daqman is 4-1 up on Pricewise on the 2014 big-race scene so far having found Kempton big race winner Saphir Du Rheu WON 6/1 at Kempton on Saturday.
FROZEN OFF: Kelso fell to Jack Frost this morning. Just two cards remain on Sunday at Wolverhampton and Navan.
This afternoon’s meeting at Kelso has been abandoned due to a frozen track.
An 8am inspection had been called by clerk of the course Hazel Peplinski and her team but some 30 minutes earlier the decision was taken that the overnight frost had got too deep into the ground with no prospect of the temperatures rising quickly enough to enable a thaw.
At just over 6.2 runners per race Wolverhampton has only just attracted more runners than a greyhound card which is disappointing in the circumstances of it now having much higher focus after Kelso has been abandoned.
We can only hope that, if and when, more all-weather tracks come along that their races will attract decent sized fields and produce competitive racing.
It is competitive at Wolverhampton today though – the fact that 6 of the 7 races are handicaps sees to that.
My nap runs in the 3.30 – the Download The Ladbrokes App Handicap.
Prime Exhibit is the BETDAQ favourite here but looks vulnerable under top weight. It was only a seller, and a four runner one at that, which he finished second in over course and distance six days ago.
Dansili Dutch actually makes more appeal in my book yet is over double the price on BETDAQ.
He won a similar event over course and distance in November and has since finished second over a slightly longer trip here and then flopped at Southwell last time out which can be excused given that it’s a totally different surface,
The only non-handicap on the card is the 1m 4f maiden at 2.30 and this should see the experience of Strandfield Bay prove too strong for the interesting flat debutant Kettlewell who has won twice over hurdles and one bumper.
In the opener My Time is a bigger price than expected at around 13 on BETDAQ and appeals as the outsider of the day.
He won well here last time out and should be equally as effective over the longer trip here.
