DAQMAN DANCE TO 40 WINNING NAPS: Daqman recorded his 40th winning nap of the year when Savethelastdance romped home 22 lengths in the Cheshire Oaks. Daqman warned to take the BETDAQ offers for the Classics about runners in the trials, and Savethelastdance is now 2.5 favourite for the Oaks on the exchange, with Vase-winner Arrest 7.0 for the Derby in BETDAQ Sportsbook.

Daqman Chester Day 1
WON 8-11 SAVETHELASTDANCE (supernap)
WON 9-4 ZIGGY’S PHOENIX

CHESTER DAY 2: Daqman previews the Dee Stakes and naps in the Ormonde, among five races analysed on Day 2 at Chester

BATTLE OF THE BALDINGS

HEADS UP The Chester draw bias produced winners for most of the day at the opening of the Chester May meeting, with success for stalls 1, 5, 5, 3, 1, 8, 12, but at the end of the day they found some better ground in the middle of the track.

⭕ 1.30 Chester (5f handicap) Winners by stall in the decade: 3, 4, 4, 3, 1, 1, 4, 1, 3. Ben Curtis got a tune from the one stall out of Radio Goo Goo yesterday for David Evans.

The stable has more luck with the stalls positions for this: he has gate 2 here for Lihou, to be ridden by Hayley Turner, but they are 2lb out of the weights, which could be decisive.

Look Out Louis has Chester handicap form of 111 and Night On Earth is a CD winner, both having had a run back.

I like the draw for Harry’s Bar (4) but he doesn’t like the rain and he doesn’t much like racing on turf (0-14).

Andrew Balding seems to want the race badly: he has booked Ryan Moore, the cool, stronger jockey, for King’s Lynn and Oisin Murphy, with his flying flamboyance, for Nymphadora.

King’s Lynn, runner-up here in a conditions race a year back, has a touch of class but races freely, has gate 8 to contend with and gives 8lb and more to the field.

Nymphadora was also a good second at this meeting a year ago, and has the better draw and better offers on BETDAQ (5.1).

THEORY OF GREENHAM BOOST

⭕ 2.05 Chester (7.5f handicap) Winners by stall in the decade 1, 4, 4, 7, 6, 2, 3, 2, 1. Andrew Balding has won this twice in the decade and had 3-6 on Saturday, while Oisin Murphy had the 1,000 Guineas winner on Sunday.

They team up here with Vetiver, who scored back to back at Beverley, both on soft and could try to make all from gate 2.

The Frankel grey Theoryofeverything was third in the Group-3 Greenham and loves soft ground.

Surely Not was impressive at Newmarket but no more so than William Buick in a sprint at Chester yesterday; talk about timing!

Ascot nursery winner Urban Sprawl, a good second on his return, and Lord Uhred, with Charles Hills in form, are also players in a cracking contest.

Second string to Urban Sprawl is True Statesman, a course winner here; Promoter could have more to offer and Self Acclaim has been prepped on AW for this local target.

O’BRIEN FOR NUMBER 10

⭕ 2.40 Chester (1m 2.5f Dee Stakes) Winners by stall 3, 3, 6, 4, 7, 3, 5, 6, 1. Aidan O’Brien tries to win his 10th Dee Stakes.

He saddles San Antonio, a Dubawi out of an Irish Oaks runner-up, who likes the ground and comfortably won his prep for this. BETDAQ 4.3.

Alder won his reappearance race, too, and looks the form pick on his third in the Champions Juvenile at Leopardstown to Auguste Rodin (soft) in September, but clearly Aidan should know about Donnacha’s runner!

Lose Your Wad and Afterwards have also prepped with a win, and Local Dynasty ended last season with two good strikes. He is yet another Dubawi out of a Shamardal mare, with bags of scope.

JUST CHANGING THE RACE

⭕ 3.15 Chester (1m 5f Ormonde Stakes) Winners by stall 5, 6, 7, 2, 3, 5, 1, 3, 5. Only one winner bigger than 9-2, with Aidan O’Brien five times a scorer. His Changingoftheguard won the Vase on soft here last year, unchallenged. BETDAQ 2.84.

Hamish goes for a repeat, clear in the ratings and a mud-lover but aged seven now and needs to be a Clever Cookie!

Max Vega and Hamish were in a bit of a bumping match when separated by a head in the St Simon Stakes at Newbury (1m 4f, heavy) in October but Max has always been a Newbury horse and has been well beaten over further.

10.5 AND HE TICKS THE BOX

⭕ 3.45 Chester (1m 2.5f handicap) Winners by stall 11, 6, 11, 2, 8, 5, 13, 3, 7. No outright favourite won in the decade.

LAYS LOGIC City Streak rose a stone up the ranks in the second half of last season but failed to score in six attempts on turf.

FORM: The big drifter is Thunder Max, who has won only his maiden, always a bad sign, and is now blinkered after hanging on his first run gelded 12 days back.

Dream Harder is another turf loser, and will need a lot of William Buick’s expertise. Amor Vincit Omnia is also uninspiring.

Box To Box is the one that strikes me, as a CD winner, who followed up here a furlong further in class 2. Back to that winning mark today and acts on the ground. Too big at BETDAQ 10.5.

Dark Pine is another CD winner with cut in the ground, now dropped below the mark he won off and fit from AW. BETDAQ 18.0
