LADY HAMANA THE MORNING PUNT
⭕ 2.00 Longchamp (Criterium de Vitesse) The race they call ‘the speed prize’ will be pretty slow in the Longchamp mud! But four English and one Irish raider hope for the best.
Maylandsea (Michael Bell) is top of the ratings on 100; her sire, Havana Grey, won the Group-3 Molecomb on soft ground.
Beaten six lengths, seventh, in the Group-1 Cheveley Park, she dropped two grades lower in the Cornwallis, leading half a furlong out but headed near the line.
Lady Hamana (Karl Burke) kept on well, fifth, has Shane Foley in the saddle today, and has been the one for the money this morning.
Proverb (George Boughey) has won twice at a lower level (now rating 90) but at least he’s scored on the soft.
Clearpoint (Maxime Guyon for Richard Fahey) landed a double in the summer but made no show in the Gimcrack and was subject to a routine veterinary examination, in which it was recorded that he was moving badly.
Ardad’s Great (Jessica Harrington) has run well in deep ground in Ireland, without breaking her maiden. Ardad, sire of both Clearpoint and Ardad’s Great, won the Windsor Castle on the soft.
MOONLIGHTER TO SHINE FOR BAILEY
⭕ 3.15 Stratford Kim Bailey produced the maiden Samatian to win at Stratford’s last meeting after dropping 11lb in the handicap.
Samatian started a roll which has Bailey 5-9, still standing, and bidding for a four-timer today following a hat-trick over three-days at Folkestone, Chepstow and Bangor.
Before Samatian (5.00 race) attempts back-back strikes, Bailey may win this handicap chase with another lacking recent form and dropped in the handicap, this time a colossal 24lb in the last year.
Moonlighter could do with some rain. Though he’s won on ‘good’, he has jumped out of the mud at both Newbury and Sandown over fences for two heavy-ground successes.
Moonlighter has won fresh and there’s no fresher than this first run for a new stable, having moved to Bailey from Nick Williams.
Midnight River has also won after a break and would also like it soft. CD-winner Pencreek might be struggling a bit now, having pushed his rating up 16lb with a hat-trick.
It could be the same story with Kauto The King, who is a stone higher now after a treble in small-field chases.

BARTZELLA ANOTHER FOR HAGGAS
⭕ 3.25 Lingfield A fillies’ Listed for stayers which has gone 7-3 to three-year-olds over four-year-olds in the decade, with top yards (Appleby, Haggas, Stoute, O’Brien) all earning black type from real quality winners, including subsequent Lillie Langtry and Royallieu star Sea La Rosa last year.
Haggas, who trained that one and has won this three times in four years, relies on Bartzella. Winner in the Spring at Ascot and Goodwood either side of the winter break but unable to act on the firm in midsummer and rested afterwards.
William Knight’s mare Pearl Beach, a handicap winner, has been beaten favourite four times in a row, all in York Listeds.
She was thumped by a Haggas filly the last day, with Straberri 4th, Viola 5th, Sea Sylph 9th (hampered and lost position). Pennymoor (2nd) and Viola (3rd) were placed in today’s race last year.
Team Gosden runs three: as well as Pennymoor, there’s One Evening, a winner at Kempton recently, beating a stablemate who has franked the form by scoring at Wolverhampton.
Darmoiselle beat the recent Park Hill winner, Mimikyu, when she broke her maiden in May but has had just the one modest run since while the runner-up has gone on to a 112 rating.
Jewel In My Crown has impressed at handicap level and deserves this step to try to get black type but her hat-trick bid in a race like this is ambitious.
I shall have my pound on Bartzella. In the absence of Tom Marquand, Cieran Fallon is taking his chances and is 2-2 this week for William Haggas.

⭕ 4.00 Lingfield This second fillies’ Listed is over a mile and has a similar distribution of winning ages, though five-year-olds have pinched two in 10 years.
The grey mare Internationalangel started a sequence of five wins in a row at this time last year. She has been placed in the Oak Tree at Goodwood and the Prix Quincey at Deauville.
This drop to Listed might do the trick, though she ran badly on her sole Lingfield start, and the Quincey was her only quality start at a mile; she has been kept mainly to 7f.
Oscula beat Internationalangel a head in the Oak Tree after Adam Kirby tried to make all on the unfancied 66-1 shot.
Crystal Caprice is one of those late developers of Sir Michael Stoute’s. The Frankel filly has been raised a stone for two handicap strikes and a Listed third since late July.
Queen Aminatu for William Haggas has raised her game without winning, up 18lb since June, largely down to a Listed second (7f, soft) at Ascot on the first day of October.
Crenelle was third in the Sandringham at Royal Ascot in June but has disappointed since, including in first-time cheekpieces the last day.
