SOFT RETURN FOR AL QAREEM
⭕ 3.15 Saint-Cloud Al Qareem makes his seasonal reappearance for Karl Burke in this 1m 4f Listed on the soft in France. This is his third season starting off 112.
He won a similar race at Chester after a break in 2023 and was beaten only a neck in the John Porter at Newbury first time out last April.
Al Qareem (drawn 3 today) was back to form in the same Chester race in September (soft) and followed up at Ascot (soft) in the Group-3 Cumberland Lodge for today’s rider, Clifford Lee, who misses the mount on a winner of his, Fahrenheit Seven, at Newcastle tonight.
Al Qareem takes on two four-year-olds who have both won at this level, Strassia (stall 7) and Christopher Head’s Internaute (adjacent in 6), to be ridden by Maxime Guyon.
MARCHE TO SNOWDEN GLORY
⭕ 3.20 Ludlow Since training the third horse home in the Midlands Grand National at the weekend, Jamie Snowden’s yard has notched up form figures of 2111111 as part of a 45% strike rate in the last fortnight.
After the youngster made all and won 13 lengths at Wetherby, he aimed Marche d’Aligre to the heights of the Finale Juvenile Hurdle at Chepstow (2nd) and the Victor Ludorum at Haydock.
Targeting the Novices’ Championship Hurdle from this class-4 qualifier should get the four-year-old back on track for his share of fame and glory, clearly seen by the stable as his right.
⭕ 3.55 Ludlow The Snowden seven-year-old Idy Wood will like the ground but has not so far shown much liking for fences. His success over hurdles and in chases has come at class-4 novice level, and he drops back from class 3 today.
The mare, Ostrava Du Berlais, has a similar record, and the race seems set for a successful Rock House debut over the bigger obstacles after class 2 and 3 hurdles places.
He’s a Point winner by Westerner out of a Presenting mare and just a hint of that pedigree should be enough.
TRAINER’S WINNING ATTITUDE
⭕ 7.00 Newcastle It’s not easy to dismiss any one of the seven remaining in this sprint but Ventura Express is 0-5 on AW and Prince Of Pillo has won only on Polytrack.
Bergerac has always needed a race after long breaks, and Nigel Tinkler may have used up his only winner of the year, Paddy’s Day.
Paddy’s Day is 10lb higher than for the first leg of a Newcastle hat-trick in January-February. He’s back after a month off for his eighth start at Gosforth Park.
With five recent defeats, one of them a week ago, Mondammej has come down in the weights since he was penalised for a fine run of form (1122110) at Newcastle from November to January.
But his success was in class 4 and 5, and his sole step up to a higher grade was when last of 10 here in February.
Fahrenheit Seven capped a summer run of 3113 with a Newcastle strike in November but was led out unsold from a Tatts sale within the month. Good try by Mark Usher but not interested.
Miss Attitude is the progressive one. Cheekpieces helped the mare to score on a similar surface at Southwell, and she was beaten only a nose at Goodwood in today’s grade on turf in July.
Trainer Jack Channon has a 40% strike rate this year with seven winners already to add to a century and a cool couple of million in prizemoney since taking over from the mighty Mick less than three years ago.
