LION IS PUT IN HIS PLACE! Daqman searched out long-odds bets for Newmarket and Beverley yesterday but is left with the pith to chew not the fruit. None of his Nell-Gwyn-day oranges were lemons but all he had to show for it were a bitter-sweet three seconds in a row in a string of potential place returns.

4th 18-1 LION KINGDOM (short of room, carried right)
2nd 7-1 VENTURA FLAME (led a furlong out)
2nd 16-1 KOLSAI (led into the dip; beaten half a length)
2nd 9-2 FAIRY CROSS (made most; caught final furlong)

Says Daqman: ‘No time for excuses. Save them for trying to explain away 28-1 Caribean Boy’s £40,000 Silver Trophy win at Cheltenham, with form figures in the last two years of P0F1P0P.’ Tricky one.

TODAY: It’s Craven Stakes day at Newmarket, which opens with another big-field handicap, with the value challenge score set at Daqman 8, Pricewise 4

TOMORROW: Scottish Grand National preview.

GODOLPHIN COLOURS AGAIN

⭕ 1.50 Newmarket Charlie Appleby, striking at 30%, won the opener last year with his Abernant hope today, Creative Force, and he won’t be far away with 4.0 offer Changing Colours this afternoon.

He is the Godolphin family incarnate, by Dubawi out of a Shamardal mare. Tries to win this first time after his gelding op, just like Creative Force, who went on to Group success at Royal Ascot.

Fillies have won two of the last four and Pinafore is a Dark Angel out of an Oasis Dream mare, backed like a good thing at Kempton in September. She was.

⭕ 2.25 Newmarket (Wood Ditton Stakes) It was back to the old days last year when the Wood Ditton winner went on to complete a hat-trick, the runner-up scored four times afterwards, and the third was a next-time winner.

It used to be the case that you followed the race blind, bagging winner after winner before the Derby. Will the Wood Ditton myth continue its revival?

CREATIVE FORCE SUPERNAP

⭕ 3.00 Newmarket (Abernant Stakes) The grey Garrus was runner-up in this last year with Jumby third.

Garrus has had a run back and Charles Hills scored here in a sprint yesterday with Orazio, ridden by William Buick.

Buick is required for Creative Force, winner of the opener on this card a year ago. They are dropping out of this -particularly Ehraz – so I think he’s a supernap price.

Creative Force is a Group-1 horse, winner and third in the British Champions Sprint, both on good to soft.

The ride on Garrus goes to his last year’s jockey, Ryan Moore, who went on to win a Group 3 on him at Deauville when there was cut in the ground, as there is today.

NIGHT ON APPLEBY’S DAY

⭕ 3.35 Newmarket (Craven Stakes) Derby winner Masar (2018) was started off in this by Charlie Appleby, who went on to make it three from four, with 2,000 runner-up, Master Of The Seas, and Guineas second (Newmarket) and first (Curragh), Native Trail.

Mysterious Knight is his choice today, Group 3 winner on the soft at Deauville and Grade-1 scorer at Woodbine on firm.

Majestic Pride, Ottoman Fleet and Silver Lady have won for Appleby at Newmarket this week and it’s hard to see past Mysterious Night, though The Foxes was a CD winner in the Royal Lodge (good) in September.

Beaten half a length that day was Charlie Johnson’s Roaring Lion colt, Dubai Mile, whose connections were bullish for the Guineas yesterday after a gallop on the Rowley Mile.

Team Gosden’s Coppice (Nell Gwyn) and Intinso (Feilden) failed yesterday to boost Mostabshir in this, so this looks another one for the boys in blue and the maestro Appleby.

20.0 PRINCESS FINAL FLING

⭕ 1.30 Cheltenham (Mares’ Hurdle Final) Dollar Bae, winner of his heat at Chepstow, needs improvement to stave off the third, Terresita (8lb better) and fourth, Well Vicky (7lb better) again.

Seventh home, Marada, who had 12st that day and is now 12lb better. Just behind was Grivetana.

But best outsider could be Neil Mulholland’s Princess T, five times a winner on the Flat, four times over hurdles and a total of 22 times placed. Quicker ground in her favour.

Betdaq Betting Exchange value 18 Marada, 20 Princess T

What are points? Points facilitate a staking plan, which is the secret to creating profit. One point is whatever you choose: a pound, a euro, or whatever ….

Start with a bank and decide how much you can afford to lose over a period of time, and determine the size of your bets accordingly. Daqman makes this variation every day.
