SIX HIT AS DAQMAN REACHES 99: Betdaq’s tipping angel, Daqman, hit the layers for six yesterday – yes, SIX winners – including a 7-1 broadside against Pricewise, taking the score in their value challenge to Daqman 99, Pricewise 36.

NAP AMONG THREE IN A ROW: The nap, Clon Brulee (WON 6-5), completed a Daqman hat-trick after a 9-4 opener and then the 7-1 coup with Mecca’s Angel, which he described as ‘best value in the race’. All told at Doncaster, he landed three in a row.

EARLY MOUSE 7 OUT OF 11: He added another winner on the Betdaq sponsored card at Kempton, and scored twice with his Early Mouse tips to take their score to 7 out of 11.
* Here are yesterday’s winners in time order:

WON 9-4 Salateen (first race of the Leger meeting)
WON 7-1 Mecca’s Angel (Pricewise challenge)
WON 10-11 Midnight Oscar (Early Mouse)
WON 13-8 Jolievitesse (Early Mouse)
WON 6-5 Clon Brulee (Nap of the day)
WON 11-10 Local Time (Betdaq sponsorship)

CARRY ON BRAGGING IN THE SCEPTRE

1.40 Doncaster Low numbers landed five in a row on the straight course at Town Moor yesterday, whatever the size of the field (from four runners to 20), with the winners’ stalls 2, 2, 2, 2, 4.

Chances Are that gate 2 has an advantage for its eponymous incumbent, trained by Keith Dalgleish, and a make-all scorer at Thirsk in conditions similar to today’s

But she didn’t get her own way at Beverley on the last day, trailing in eight of eight. East Coast Lady’s form is similar, an easy from the front, then her form collapsed against Cajoling last month, though firm ground may have been a contributory factor.

Through Cajoling (Goodwood August 22), both have something to find on Persun and, through him, the collateral-form trail leads to Gregoria, 9.2 on BETDAQ early mouse.

Gregoria (third) was unlucky to be beaten at Newmarket a few days earlier when carried right and she is now better off with Persun (second) and Home Cummins (fourth).

Vesnina has a seemingly handy stall (4) but this race hasn’t been won so high in the handicap in the decade (9st 3lb the ceiling) and her effort at Salisbury a week ago doesn’t inspire (slow away and 50-1, albeit in a Pattern race).

Charles Hills has two interesting contenders among the high drawn, Angels Wings and Mary McPhee, but the pace seems to be low and Gregoria’s breeding suggests bags of stamina with which to outstay them.

2.10 Doncaster (Sceptre Stakes) A year ago, Lucky Kristale, who had just won the Lowther, and Kiyoshi (Albany Stakes, Royal Ascot) would have been red hot but neither seems to have trained on at that level, though the last two Sceptre winners came good after a hitherto poor season.

Three-year-olds have won eight in a row, and a Group penalty has been carried successfully only once in the decade

The poor form of her yard (0-14) and the 3lb she gets for scoring at Goodwood could both count against J Wonder, with second, third and fourth all taking her on again.

I’ll stick with late-developer Bragging (drawn 4), who started her career only in May of this year, and landed the nap for me at York.

She is expected to step up to Pattern level today and go right to the top with a stable that is noted for the art of progressing them (‘I hope she stays in training next season,’ quote unquote Sir Michael Stoute).

2.40 Doncaster (Park Hill Stakes) The third consecutive race without colts, this is the fillies’ St Leger, almost always won by Group performers.

For that reason, I shall rule out Cascading, Debdebdeb and Sohar, typical of those at this time of year desperate to place in the Pattern to get some black type.

Melrose Abbey should also be added to that group but she looked scopy when seen in the Spring, will like the ground and is with a yard that has done well with fillies (again) this season.

Her absence could be put down to her need for softish ground (she’s a Selkirk) but we’ve had plenty of that in this English ‘summer.’

Seal of Approval is living off her British Champions Day win last autumn but it was a poor renewal. None of those she beat that day has won since.

Similarly, the Geoffrey Freer, when she was third, was not top class, and the favourite, Pethers Moon, failed to perform in first-time blinkers.

Arabian Comet is ultra consistent and her trainer says she’s need this trip. She’s been placed in both the Lillie Langtry and the Galtres, which are both good guides to this.

Venus De Milo’s only attempt at today’s trip was when she needed the run in June. her Group-1 places in the Pretty Polly and the Nassau give her every chance and the (first time) hood which she hated at York last time is now left off.

Moment In Time, fourth in the American St Leger, was just pipped by Silk Sari at Newbury in August. Silk Sari is a Doncaster winner in today’s conditions, and has had only eight races in her life. I think it’s a good Classic season, so I will take the three-year-old Arabian Comet.

3.15 Doncaster This was won by a 100-1 shot last season and it’s had winners at 16-1 and 20-1 (twice) since 2005.

The Great War’s early shine has dimmed with his defeats since but he’s a colt who takes time to get into his stride and a strong pace here could see him find it.

Fox Trotter was around the same distance behind Ivawood at Goodwood as was The Great War at Newmarket but there’s quite a gap in the weights here.

The Racing Post has Fox Trotter eight points ahead and I’m not sure the gap is that big. I have my reservations about the Brian Meehan stable form, as I said about J Wonder in the Sceptre. J Wonder’s performance in that will help you decide about Fox Trotter.

But a notable feature of the stats about this race is that winners have had between three and seven races, mostly experienced in four or five. I wonder, therefore, if Plymouth Sound, Acaster Malbis, Grandad’s World, Valley of Fire, Cockney island, and, of course, Fox Trotter have enough know-how, with so few runs on their CV.

The Great War, Kasb, Lexington Times, Natural Order and Kibaar are the ones with Group-race entries, other than Fox Trotter.

Lexington Times (8.4 this morning on BETDAQ) was only a short-head and a neck off Group-2 runner-up, Aktabantay when he won the Solario at Sandown recrntly and a strongly-run race is his cup of tea. Team Hannon is bullish.
