MURTAGH FILLY ON THE MAP AND DAQMAN BACK ON COURSE: Daqman returned to his winner-a-day theme yesterday, taking the sequence to nine days out of 10, when the aptly-named Churchill filly, Ladies Church, put herself on the map with an easy win in a Naas Listed for Johnny Murtagh and Ben Coen.
WON 3-1 LADIES CHURCH (profit on the day 2.25pts)
SANDOWN QUARTET SHOULD THROW UP A WINNER OR TWO: More two-year-olds look good at Leopardstown in Ireland tonight on a long hot day of seven meetings but Daqman prefers to take apart four afternoon races at Sandown and hope for more success with the staking plan.
BALLYDOYLE MAKING A POINT AGAIN
⚠️ HEADS UP Two of Aidan O’Brien’s top two-year-olds are running at Leopardstown tonight – Prettiest (5.00) and Point Lonsdale (5.30) – and I could have napped or supernapped.
But there’s nothing brave or near-certain about them in entirely new circumstances in Ireland, where most juveniles have won on easy, even heavy, terrain and the ground is now firm or nearly so.
We’ll keep our Irish powder dry for Galway which starts on Monday, and creates a double of big-race meetings with Goodwood from Tuesday.
There are seven meetings in England and Ireland today from 1pm to 8.40, a near-eight hour day of dealing on the BETDAQ BETTING EXCHANGE . I prefer to get close to four of the best from Sandown this afternoon.
ROSE COULD BLOOM FROM LOW DRAW
⭕ 1.00 Sandown Handicaps are best when assessing the draw possibilities because, if the runners are all fairly well exposed, and the handicapper has done his equalising job, a bias like the draw is a bonus edge for winner-finding.
Winners by stall in the last six seasons of this 5f handicap have been 3, 2, 2, 2, 2, 3, which is par for the Esher course.
You hope for confirmation in the low stalls of a sprinter super fit and from a stable in form; an animal that’s well-handicapped on past performance. But it’s never quite that easy.
Libertine Belle (from the one stall) drops to the minimum for the first time, with Oisin Murphy booked; stable form 1-15.
Spring Bloom (gate 2) is just 1-10 on turf; has won only his maiden, always a bad sign; 2233222 among 11 losing races wrapped around his win; bridesmaid! Stable 0-7.
Union Rose (3) scored back to back late last summer, including here from a bad draw (out of 8); 15lb lower today than for the start of the season; a nine-year-old but stable returned to form on Tuesday.
BETDAQ value 31.0 Union Rose
THE INSPIRED PLACING OF INSPIRAL
⭕ 2.10 Sandown The Frankel filly Inspiral is on an educational journey ‘small steps at a time,’ says Thady Gosden.
I would say that a class-4 maiden to a Listed race, straight into the black-type arena, may be one small step for Inspiral, one giant leap for most of her kind!
Wild Beauty it is who has taken the small steps; scoring twice in class 4 but on the soft. She is a Frankel out of a Pivotal mare (see my Classic Family story on Tuesday) and ‘could be anything.’
BETDAQ value 3.15 Inspiral
ANOTHER ROSE THAT IS NOT SO BAD
⭕ 2.45 Sandown Who Dares Wins took this in 2015 and became a Grade-2 hurdler for Alan King; otherwise this Young Stayers Handicap hasn’t had a lot of clout.
Andrew Balding has won it twice in the decade, and his Classic Lord is 3-7 but all three wins were on soft ground.
Lady Pacifico is class-5 level, albeit weighted accordingly and with first-time cheekpieces, but the race seems handed to Mark Johnston.
Roseabad has been narrowly beaten in class 2 and has come up against Group horses like Lone Eagle and Mohaafeth, but has just been short of pace up to 1m 4f. This extra quarter-mile should be just the ticket.
Stablemate Annandale has had the speed to win at 10 furlongs but the pedigree for 2m! So we need to back stablemate as a saver.
BETDAQ value 4.0 Roseabad, 4.4 Annandale
RESET THE RATING AND SHE’S WELL IN
⭕ 3.55 Sandown Lawn Ranger, eh? I suppose Patrick Mower would take the lead in that one, though he’s 82 now (get him an electric one, preferably Silver).
Lawn Ranger is well weighted now, below his last winning mark of nearly two years ago, but his stable currently has a poor 1-18 strike rate, with just one winning punt (10-11 fav at Brighton recently) in a sea of SPs at 18-1, 20-1 (twice), 28-1, 50-1, 66-1, 80-1, 150-1, 200-1, 250-1, 300-1.
Never has it been more relevant to say: watch the market! He’s a six-year-old giving weight to four-year-olds who should be on the improve.
Russian Virtue (not clear run; stumbled) failed by only half-a-length to catch Sweet Reward here at Sandown in June (Andaleep 10th and last).
Civil Law is up a stone and changed stables since scoring back to back at lower levels in the early summer.
David Pipe’s Lady Reset (74 Flat rating) is ahead of his hurdles mark (96) on my ratings-conversion tables. He likes the trip and the top of the ground.
BETDAQ value 8.2 Lady Reset

What are points? Points facilitate a staking plan, which is the secret to creating profit. One point is whatever you choose: a pound, a euro, or whatever ….
Start with a bank and decide how much you can afford to lose over a period of time, and determine the size of your bets accordingly. Daqman makes this variation every day.
