BULL’S-EYE BET AT NEWBURY: Daqman fancies a bull’s-eye bet today from a stable which farms the Pertemps qualifier at Newbury. He also tests the top yard on bumper form.
TOMORROW: Jumps preview for Saturday.
THEY’RE CHASING RAINBOWS..
Punters punished. Race-planners have pitched the best-quality chase today (a class 3) for 3.25 at Newbury but have only three runners left. That follows a (12.30) chase for beginners with just two runners farcically called ‘Chasing Excellence’!
Tomorrow at Exeter, the class-2 Future Stars Novices (1.50) has four at this stage; the Haldon Gold Cup (2.25) has six.
At a time when racing pleads poverty, we already seem set on another jumps season thin on numbers and quality in the very races claimed to be of the class guaranteed to attract punters to names they see and know in strong competition.
In Ireland today the Clonmel Oil Chase features the reappearance of Il Etait Temps at odds-on in a field of four. Willie Mullins, who has won the race six times in seven seasons, trains two of them.
HELP YOURSELF TO BETDAQ 13.5
⭕ 2.50 Newbury Watch out for trainers farming these Pertemps qualifiers, running in two or three of them to get to know who wants what and when, playing the handicapper.
Don’t back the winner of this one in the final: in the last decade, they have finished 13th, 17th and 18th on the big day.
I’ll be revealing where the successful Finalists come from. You can’t guarantee to find the winners of qualifiers, but you do have the best prices on BETDAQ in a 107% total list of offers this morning.
Considering he’s won it three times in eight seasons, well backed every time, I fancy David Pipe with J P McManus’s Thanksforthehelp, winner twice after a break. I took 13.5, expecting to see it shorten up.
⭕ 3.25 Newbury Here’s that class-3 chase with the small field. Outlaw Pete has run moderately in two runs after wind surgery and in normal circumstances needs to bounce back to his form of Spring 2024.
But the opposition, such as it is, looks very weak: Marvel De Cerisy loves deep ground and Lord Baddesley is a poor 1-14 over fences.
SKELTON IS BUMPER CHAMPION
⭕ 4.00 Newbury Dan Skelton has had 2-2 bumper winners in the last 10 days and overall has the leading score for NH Flat success, 57-34 over Nicky Henderson, in the last five years. He also leads Henderson 38-18 on winning newcomers.
Turbocharged (Skelton) – at Betdaq Betting Exchange 6.0 this morning – has a pedigree packed with bumper winners, whereas the relatives of Padre Arthur (Henderson) are hurdles scorers over a distance of ground.
⭕ NAP: Henderson has a rare runner at Sedgefield (2.30), where he is 2-2: he has booked former champion Brian Hughes for Fierce Warrior (I took 4.0).

What are points? Points facilitate a staking plan, which is the secret to creating profit. One point is whatever you choose: a pound, a euro, or whatever ….
Start with a bank and decide how much you can afford to lose over a period of time, and determine the size of your bets accordingly. Daqman makes this variation every day.
