NOW A DAQMAN NAPS HAT-TRICK: Cognisance is knowing the score. That means following Daqman on yet another amazing sequence of winners. His hat-trick of naps at 9-4 yesterday completed 15 winners in the last eight days.
★ WON 9-4 COGNISANCE (Wednesday nap)
★ WON 13-8 KINETIC (Tuesday nap)
★ WON 7-2 LUNATICK (Monday nap)
* 14 wins in a week; see full list yesterday
TODAY: Ebor runner is 16-1 for the Cambridgeshire! Daqman checks out the evening meetings at Newbury and Southwell.
HIPOP’S AUTUMN DOUBLE
Hip hop in France is second only to America. And the horse called Hipop is a big hit in Ireland and Germany and one of the biggest punts in England at York last week.
Hipop De Loire is exactly what it says on the tin; it’s about hip hop in the Loire valley, centre of the French craze.
And the seven-year-old gelding might be another one of those late-season Willie Mullins crazes that could mop up a Cesarewitch or a Melbourne Cup.
Why the fuss? Well, though giving weight away to a dozen others in the first 14 to finish in the Ebor, he was repeatedly short of room, denied a clear run inside the final furlong, finishing little more than four lengths behind the winner, fifth.
In fact, he’s being priced up for a Cesarewitch DOUBLE: the Irish Cesarewitch at the Curragh on September 29 and the Newmarket Cesarewitch on October 12.
Epic Poet, badly hampered over six furlongs out in that Ebor, might almost be expected to take him on, having run on well to finish fourth for David O’Meara, who trains at nearby Helmsley.
In fact, his target seems to be the Cambridgshire, for which he’s about 16-1. The Cambridgeshire is a drop of five fiurlongs.
Epic it would certainly be if Hipop De Loire and Epic Poet were to land the famous autumn double.
THE NOT-SO-EASY RYDER
⭕ 5.55 Newbury George Rooke scored 2-2 for Charles Hills over three days last week and is entrusted with the handicap debut of Hunters Run.
A hood has worked well at home and the Postponed gelding could be the outsider of the day at BETDAQ 50.0, as was last year’s winner of this at 33-1 SP.
Hills has another runner, Murashah (BETDAQ 6.8), the mount of Jim Crowley. First-time winner last season and finished well on his only start since.
⭕ 6.14 Southwell A wide draw may actually be helpful to another Hills horse, Racingbreaks Ryder, as it was for last year’s one-two out of stalls 13 and 10.
Ryder landed a treble in the Spring of ‘23 but, though he’s down in the handicap now and running well, he needs the kind of kidology and persuasive finish from the pack that Oisin Murphy is famous for. Betdaq Betting Exchange 7.4 taken.
BETTER IS EXPECTED NOW
⭕ 6.30 Newbury Devoirs Choice is in stall 10 which produced the winner last year but it was a scrambled effort when Devoirs scored at Ripon the last day and he can be opposed tonight.
By No Nay Never out of a Galileo mare: you should be counting anticipating Group-1 wins by now but Never Better languishes in a class-4 handicap.
Apple Tree Stud might have ‘got shut’ but they think enough about him to have him gelded and ask Roger Varian to get some of their money back on the racecourse. BETDAQ 8.0 offers this morning.
⭕ 7.12 Southwell Sir Mark Prescott leaves so much to work on as his sequence horses rise and rise in the handicap, yet you hear time and again the observation: he surely can’t do it again, can he?
Well he does it with the kind of clever move for Warmonger in his bid for a four-timer at BETDAQ 3.0.
He’s up 8lb for scoring, eased down, at Kempton but, as the only three-year-old in the race, gets weight all round.
COOL HAT-TRICK CHANCE
⭕ 7.30 Newbury One Cool Dreamer is progressive and, on a hat-trick today, is potentially another sequence horse. Looks backable alongside all the one-paced low-level types running at Newbury tonight.
Alan King’s three-year-old stayed on well to win over this trip on the July Course and jockey David Egan thought he would get further, so a prominent run can be expected under Rossa Ryan. BETDAQ 5.8 taken.
