Today’s headlines
IT’S A LONG WAY FROM HOME: Jockeys foiled by the long straight and run-in at Market Rasen yesterday. It’s a punters warning for future bets there.
WATER, WATER EVERYWHERE: How can it be? Some tracks are soft or heavy. Some are being watered; some face showers. The British weather conundrum continues.
ANYTHING YOU CAN DO.. Paul Nicholls has claimer Freddie Gingell as his new star rider. Now Nicky Henderson creates the battle of the two Freddies by using Freddie Gordon.
WILD WINNER FOR LAURA: Laura Morgan has the eyecatcher at Musselburgh where she does well. Adam Wedge rides a horse tried at Grade-2 level.
IT’S A LONG WAY FROM HOME
PUNTERS BEWARE! The infamous long straight with its 250-yard run-in at Market Rasen was costly yesterday, including for Daqman.
It caught out first Tom Cannon (on Daqman’s nap, Harbour Lake 2nd 2-1) then Tom Bellamy (Percy Veering 2nd 7-2), both beaten half a length.
Harbour Lake ‘led last, no extra’; Percy Veering ’headed 11th, led again after 4 out, headed final 110 yards.’
WATER, WATER EVERYWHERE
STORM BERT eat your heart out! The vagaries of the British weather are no better revealed than by the published going reports for today and tomorrow. Three of the five venues are being watered yet three of them are marked soft or heavy, two for showers.
TODAY: Taunton good to soft; showers. Lingfield soft, heavy in places. Musselburgh good to soft, watered.
TOMORROW: Newbury hurdles soft, chase good to soft; scattered showers. Doncaster good (hurdles), good to soft (chase), selective watering. Musselburgh good to soft, watered.
❌ Saturday’s meeting at Bangor has been abandoned.
ANYTHING YOU CAN DO..
⭕ 1.25 Taunton There’s a rival in the rise and rise of Freddie Gingell, who rides for Paul Nicholls It’s Freddie Gordon, a 5lb conditional, with current returns of 11132. He’s already had two winners for Nicky Henderson, one of them last month on In The Air.
First with Gary Moore then with Adam West, In The Air has won two out of three switched to Henderson, cruising home at Southwell for Freddie.
Hecouldbetheone is 112 in today’s grade. A conditional and an amateur has helped him, too, but In The Air is down 5lb on a decent run at Cheltenham, where the hill caught him out. This is a furlong shorter.
Neil Mulholland’s Bath yard has been bubbling with 39 winners this season but has gone off the boil with a string of places without winning, including three beaten favourites, and Super Sabre Sam beat a poor field to break his maiden at Fontwell.
Front-runner King Of The Road won two in class 5 last Spring but has to last out in better company here.
FREDDY LIKES THE TRACK
⭕ 2.10 Musselburgh Claimers have won this twice on five-year-olds in the last four seasons, and the pattern can continue with the top-weight here, Freddy Robinson at Betdaq Betting Exchange value 9.9 this morning. Or have I just got Freddies on the brain!
What’s going for this Freddy? Well, he’s a CD winner a long ways back, but won for today’s rider, Charlie Maggs, at Catterick in January in his last start over hurdles.
Trainer Brian Ellison is getting the best out of his runners (rated 63% in the Racing Post), capped by a six-lengths winner on Tuesday, and Charlie Maggs is striking at 21%.
Restandbethankful (it’s a pub name) hasn’t won over hurdles for nearly four years, concentrating on fences.
Heart Above and Ravenscraig Castle have each been placed in three out of their last four starts. Just the one win, and that was when Heart Above broke his maiden at the 10th attempt.
WILD WINNER FOR LAURA
⭕ 2.45 Musselburgh There’s Brandy and Champagne on the menu here and, appropriately, the winner may be Wild Side Of Life.
After a try at Grade-2 Cheltenham, this Point scorer was well backed the last twice over hurdles but was always intended to jump fences.
Harry Cobden rode him when he backpedalled in the mud at Southwell in April but was a good second in his first hurdles start, both after long breaks. Adam Wedge, who won on his last ride for Laura Morgan, takes over today.
Brandy McQueen won twice over hurdles at Musselburgh in February last year but pulled up there over fences more recently.
Everyday Champagne has also failed to reach the frame under both disciplines at Musselburgh, though was placed over fences twice at Perth on good ground.

What are points? Points facilitate a staking plan, which is the secret to creating profit. One point is whatever you choose: a pound, a euro, or whatever ….
Start with a bank and decide how much you can afford to lose over a period of time, and determine the size of your bets accordingly. Daqman makes this variation every day.
