WINNER-A-DAY DAQMAN IS READY FOR THE BIG WEEKEND: Daqman left it late but maintained his winner-a-day tipping momentum with success by moonlight at Kempton last night. Can he keep it up with five cards to choose from today, the AW Finals tomorrow and an Easter weekend of seven meetings on Saturday, six on Sunday and the Irish Grand National on Monday?

Monday
WON 5-4 DANNY KIRWAN (nap)

Tuesday
WON 7-2 WUDASHUDACUDA

Wednesday
WON 7-4 AU CLAIR DE LUNE

IRISH NATIONAL WEIGHTS GO UP IF TIGER ROLL IS OUT: There were 60 left in the Irish Grand National yesterday but half of those declared will lose out at the final cut-off stage. A decision about Tiger Roll will be left until late. A key factor (the weights) will change in Daqman’s top 20 ABC guide if he is withdrawn.

POLE POSITION FOR BARRICHELLO

⭕ 1.15 Wetherby I said yesterday the Jockeys Championship was getting interesting and so it proved. Harry Skelton narrowed the gap to just one over Brian Hughes and has also now gone favourite to lift the trophy.

Hughes gets an early chance to increase his slender lead on Barrichello and hopefully for the jockeys sake he won’t be catching the seconditis that Barrichello appears to have have.

Form figures of 32222 don’t immediately fill you with confidence but as usual you need to look under the bonnet.

The positives first. Barrichello is trained by Donald McCain who is running at a very respectable 5 winners from his last 25 runners.

Secondly, there is every chance that Barrichello has bumped into some decent winners in his last two starts. He was beaten six lengths by Omar Maretti at Catterick – that one followed up by the same margin under a penalty next time out, also at Catterick.

Last time Barrichello finished second to Up For Parol who is odds-on to win at Ffos Las (2.25) later this afternoon and looks a decent prospect. The margin from the third Fete Champetre (runs again today) back to the fourth was 25 lengths that day and I don’t think there is anything in today’s race that looks as unexposed as the winner. In short, a repetition of his latest run should be enough.

The BETDAQ BETTING EXCHANGE market makes Monarchofthegrange the danger but he is 0-8 and looks modest with his best form coming on soft ground.

A bigger danger could come from Fete Champetre who has five lengths to find on the nap and could find himself chasing him home again today, hopefully at a respectful distance.

CLAIMS ON NATIONAL

⭕ 4.37 Ffos Las (West Wales National Handicap Chase) As regular readers will know I love a National and the West Wales edition has thrown up the most competitive race of the day, by far. So much so we can have an interest in three with limited downside. I’ve staked in such a way today that we need the NAP to cover the other bets.

The claimers seem to mopping up plenty of the big races at the moment and my shortlist is Seaston Spirit (Kai Lenihan claims 10), Legends Gold (Angus Cheleda claims 7) and Pobbles Bay (Niall Moore claims 10).

If pressed, I prefer Seaston Spirit who landed a Bull’s-Eye bet for me at 6/1 in the Sussex National back in January. He wasn’t at the races subsequently with a poor effort at Wincanton but he’s thrown in a poor run in the past and come back with a win.

Pobbles Bay is the only course and distance winner in the field – winning this in 2019 and if the first time cheekpieces have a positive impact I don’t want to leave him out of the calculations.

The mare Legends Gold has a 5-15 career record and is interesting on her first test over an extreme trip.

MARTA MIGHT STRIKE

⭕ 7.50 Chelmsford Marta Boy might be vulnerable here to one of the improvers but at face value looks the one to be on given his recent consistent form.

Tamaska and Adace are prominent in the market but haven’t shown much at all and both hail from stables that are out of form.

What are points? Points facilitate a staking plan, which is the secret to creating profit. One point is whatever you choose: a pound, a euro, or whatever ….

Start with a bank and decide how much you can afford to lose over a period of time, and determine the size of your bets accordingly. Daqman makes this variation every day.
