⚠️ HEADS UP Tom Scudamore, who has ridden two of the last three winners of the Ladbrokes Trophy, will partner his 2020 hero, Cloth Cap, for Jonjo O’Neill in Saturday’s chase.
Cloth Cap, whose target is the Grand National, is 18lb higher now but has had a wind op and showed on his reappearance run at Cheltenham last month (without his usual cheekpieces) that he is perfectly timed for a repeat bid.

⚠️ HEADS UP It’s a sunny day at Lingfield and at Taunton. The difference is that Taunton has firm ground and no races of eight or more runners until the last, and with the prospect of more coming out. Good to soft at Lingfield but a tall task for punters: two claimers, two novices and a maiden!
⭕ 12.15 Lingfield Kevin Brogan, with 23 winners, is well clear of any other conditional riding taking part in this, and his mount, the unexposed Malinas Island, is not without a chance.
Trainer Neil Mulholland has had two winners and two placed from six runners in the last four days.
Ellie Vaughan’s 10lb claim helps the top-weight, Imphal, a hat-trick winner, favourite every time, and Cillin Leonard will test the wannabe professionals here if sending Thiryfourstitches to the front.
King Cool races for Angus Cheleda some 20lb lower than at this time a year ago but is a 10-year-old now.

Bretney is his one and only runner between last Saturday and next Saturday; he’s been a single-figure SP in four of his last five hurdle starts – the four when he completed the course – favourite the last day when third on his reappearance chasing debut (led three out).
Well handicapped now and the money could come again, making his 10.0 in the BETDAQ Sportsbook a potential steal of a few points bet and lay.
Watch out also for money for Robins Field, who was put out to scrap after being pulled up twice but his new stable is a wonderful reclamation yard for finding hidden treasures. Wind op. Claimed off.
Otherwise, you have to decide: which of Movethechains, Hoot At Midnight and Ballintara can put two wins together.
Ballintara is least likely to, as the last winner from his yard (and on firm ground at that) 169 days ago.
Movethechains has already done it and goes for a hat-trick today but tonked 20lb for landing a double on today’s course.
Hoot At Midnight is a useful mare but has won just the one (1-16) last time out, when she was recouping losses, beaten favourite twice in the summer.
Lilith went close here in a maiden, and Getastar was backed last night in a complete change of direction.
Now switches to fences, handicaps and headgear, after losing a total of 118 lengths over hurdles in two October flops at big prices. Or were those ‘flops’ prep races for today?

⭕ 1.15 Lingfield Back to the claimers but this time there’s one in the limelight unable to claim in this. It’s James Bowen, who won the Summer Plate at Market Rasen and the Grand Sefton over the National fences earlier this month.
I don’t fancy him on Dream Du Grand Val, who was clearly ‘not expected’ in all five starts this year at 100-1, 20-1, 40-1, 28-1 and 50-1, and I prefer James’s next mount.
⭕ 1.45 Lingfield Exmoor Express, unexposed bumper winner, has had a run back and can get involved under James Bowen but it’s a very open novices’ hurdle.
Dan Skelton’s French import Heltenham will be feared; son of the 2011 Ladbrokes St Leger winner, Masked Marvel.
Flat winner at 1m 6f, Crossing The Bar makes his hurdles debut, likely to need further than the bare 2m.
Sherborne and Green Planet have been encouraging without tempting me to bet, and Duke Of Rockingham and Ocean Heights are both bumper winners.

WINSTON TO WIN THE CIGAR
⭕ 2.25 Taunton An Tailliur has climbed the handicap from Jonjo O’Neill from a 94-rated class-5 winner at Market Rasen in May through five wins in a row to his 121 strike at Exeter.
A recent move on Cheltenham (surely he’s an Aintree or Sandown type, Jonjo) came unstuck at the first when he unseated at 3-1 favourite in a big field, and a strong one.
The winner had scored earlier at Cheltenham, beating Graded-placed Coole Cody and An Tailliur, who clearly didn’t have a race and remains in form at home, can land a 4.1 BETDAQ touch today.
⭕ 3.35 Wolverhampton Roger Varian is on a hat-trick after winners at Wolver and Kempton this week, and Sir Winston could earn the cigar from this Coral-sponsored race, slightly better than even money this morning.
Winston looked the winner as he went second at Newcastle two weeks back but Honky Tonk Man was not for catching.
Honky is powerful and could tonk a higher-grade field, possibly targeting the AW Finals, and the fourth horse home had won at Chelmsford, lending depth to the race.
