10-1 AND 14-1 DAQMAN STRIKES: BETDAQ opened the second day at York today with 102% total offers, compared with yesterday’s opening race with the bookies betting at 131% total SP. Daqman was in there early, trading at value or better, scooping up winners at 10-1 and 14-1.

INTERNATIONAL ONE-TWO: Daqman landed first and second from his winner in three for the International: City of Troy WON 5-4, Calandagan 2nd 13-2 (from BETDAQ 9.1). Read why the winner’s jockey was embarrassed and the runner-up sad.

BURKE TO BAG THE LOWTHER

⭕ 1.50 York (Lowther Stakes): Karl Burke, who has won this at 12-1 and 25-1 in the last five years, fits the race criteria with Leovanni and Miss Lamai for previous runs of two or more with a win last time out.

James Doyle’s booking for Leovanni seems super-significant, with his five-year record for the yard 5-8 for 63% with a single-point level-stakes profit of 34.50.

But one of that pair of winning outsiders leapt forward 24lb from a Ripon class 4 and the other defied a 12-1 defeat (third) at Royal Ascot after scoring as a Beverley class-4 novice.

Aidan O’Brien won it in 2018 with Albany third Fairyland who went on to take the Cheveley Park.

Heavens Gate was also third in the Albany, Celandine third in the Robert Papin, Time For Sandals third in the Newbury Super Sprint.

If you’re still thinking Karl Burke, Leovanni won the Queen Mary on the far side with Miss Lamai, led group on the near side, fourth. You can’t back one without the other: BETDAQ 3.7 Leovanni, 15.5 Miss Lamai

SAY GRACE IN HANNON FEAST

⭕ 2.25 York (Sales race): Everybody will tell you, Richard Hannon’s good at Sales races. For once, the word on the street is right; it may even be an understatement.

He’s won this five times in eight years; was third last season, 4th in 2021, and previously 5th, 6th and 8th. So almost always on the money, with big-field prizes going back up to 10 places.

He’s booked Ryan Moore, who rode probably his best winner, Mum’s Tipple, and inevitably An Outlaw’s Grace has been backed from stall 13 (incidentally, adjacent to the one occupied by Mum’s Tipple).

The Dandy Man colt was a good fourth in the Robert Papin but, as happens to so many, was short of room in the Group-2 Vintage at Goodwood (7f).

Stalls 2, 3, 4, 6 (twice) and 7 have won this in the last eight seasons, so you also need something coming out of a low gate on the far side.

The Lowther will tell you more about Maw Lam (drawn 9), who was third in the Queen Mary behind Leovanni with Miss Lamai in fourth.

Arizona Blaze (out of 4 today), winner of the Marble Hill, was third in consecutive Group events, the Norfolk, the Railway Stakes and the Phoenix, which received a big boost when runner-up Whistlejacket took Sunday’s Morny.

Betdaq Betting Exchange 3.45 Arizona Blaze, 5.4 An Outlaws Grace.

ELNAJMM CHAMPION TARGET

⭕ 3.00 York: In this mile handicap, single-figure stalls have scored in seven seasons out of nine and ability on the course is helpful.

Daniel Tudhope has won it twice from the one stall for David O’Meara, including with Blue For You in 2022 when he beat the 2019 winner, What’s The Story.

He seems well drawn for a repeat in 4 but will need to be on his best behaviour. Taken down early, he was slowly away in the Royal Hunt Cup, when Holloway Boy was 5th and Metal Merchant 7th.

La Trinidad was unlucky in the race last year but he and Elnajmm – coming out of stalls 16 and 17 side by side – both have to carry penalties.

La Trinidad is seven now but the four-year-old improver Elnajmm cannot be overlooked despite a rise of 18lb for his hat-trick, never out of the first two in just six career starts.

Now entered in the QE11 on Champions Day, Elnajmm would be a good thing but for his draw.

BETDAQ 5.4 Elnajmm, 11 Blue For You

CONTENT TO BE ON MOORE

⭕ 3.35 Yorkshire Oaks: Three-year-olds win this every time, except when confronted by champion older fillies.

I’m thinking Alpinista and Enable, who both went on to win the Arc, and took this test off 118 and 126 respectively.

There’s nothing like that quality here and, if ITV rattle on any more about Emily Upjohn, I’ll have to turn the volume down. She couldn’t win the Arc if Noah built it for her!

Other than that amazing pair, Alpinista and Enable, three-year-olds are 8-8, five in the decade for Aidan O’Brien who landed an incredible treble yesterday, starting with next year’s Derby favourite, The Lion In Winter, and completing with this year’s Derby winner, City of Troy.

Ryan Moore spurned raucous Chapmanesque Americana at the International presentations. He had earlier demanded ‘let the horse speak for himself,’ as he walked back on City of Troy.

Moore took the race apart, knowing Troy would not stop the gallop; any other horse trying to make all like that and Calandagan would have gobbled him up. It made Stephane Pasquier ‘sad’ that he did everything right but his finishing run couldn’t quite overhaul the winner.

It’s all about pace and it is unlikely to fall to You Got To Me as it did when he held off Content in the Irish Oaks; I think Ryan Moore can turn it around.

We can bet both, if we believe that the Gosden pair, Queen Of The Pride and Emily Upjohn, will lose out to the young ones. Content 4.2, You Got To Me 6.0.

COULD BE ALL THAT JAZZ..

⭕ 4.10 York (Galtres Stakes) Three-year-olds are 9-10 in this but their two front-runners in the market – Sea Just In Time and Fairy Glen – dropped out this morning.

I had already taken 11.0 Noisy Jazz (one run, one win), after the James Owen stable’s superb effort to split The Lion In Winter and Ruling Court yesterday with 22-1 Wimbledon Hawkeye. Not my money but the non-runners who have her down to 6.3 on BETDAQ.

The best four-year-old could be 4.8 offer Satin for Jessica Harrington. Satin gave weight when third to a Group-3 winner on the soft at Newmarket after taking a big-field handicap (raised 9lb) at Leopardstown (good) in cheekpieces, which are back on again today.
