MORE CLASSIC VALUE AT 26.0 AND BOOST FOR RACING RESTART: Daqman launched his search for Guineas value yesterday with a 17.0 BETDAQ bet in the English 2,000 to upset the likely hot favourite, Pinatubo. Today he has 26.0 about a Godolphin contender for the 1,000 Guineas. French racing’s restart, planned for Longchamp next Monday, got a boost when the French police made no objection to the plan.
🗓️ TOMORROW: The search for value continues
LONGCHAMP GETS POLICE ALL CLEAR
⚠️ HEADS UP: French racing has police permission to go ahead with next Monday’s Flat-season launch at Longchamp.
The card includes four Group-1 trials, including the Prix de Fontainebleau, which will feature the favourite for the French 2,000 Guineas (June 1).
That’s Victor Ludorum, who landed the Lagardere – top two-year-old test at the Arc meeting at Longchamp – on very soft ground as third leg of a hat-trick.
His confirmed prep race and Poulains target goes some way to justifying my view in this week’s Daqman Guineas specials to delete French and Irish probables because of potential travel restrictions. That makes the odds about English runners huge.
Meanwhile, Ireland’s extended lockdown into June appears to put racing there well behind Germany (restart Thursday this week) and France, with England running third, hoping for a Friday, May 15, resumption.
26.0 ENGLISH ROSE FOR 1,000 GUINEAS
Is it Godolphin’s year? They have a problem others wish they had in mapping the future of three magnificent colts, Earthlight, Pinatubo and Victor Ludorum, stabled between Charlie Appleby and Andre Fabre.
But quietly getting on with growth and maturity as the colts strutted their stuff in their juvenile season was a special filly, according to the boys in blue.
Alpen Rose, by Sea The Stars, is out of a mare by Holy Roman Emperor, whose son, Romanised, won the Irish 2,000 Guineas.
There was some significant trading at big prices about her over the weekend and, if anything pricks the Quadrilateral balloon, it may be Charlie Appleby’s Rose.
Quadrilateral looks reasonably priced at 5-1 as one of a trio I have put up against the exposed Daahiyeh and Raffle Prize because, whatever Ireland and France have to offer, they cannot be included in the potential line-up at this stage because of travel restrictions.
Also ‘big’ is Born With Pride at 26.0 in the BETDAQ Sportsbook but 19.5 after trading on the BETDAQ Exchange.
I thought she looked in need of further as a two-year-old, and ‘stayer’ is how her pedigree reads.
There’s plenty of time to think about an Oaks bet, and interesting to see whether William Haggas runs her in this 1,000 or in the Nell Gwyn, which – all being well with the new English schedule – is being run on the opening day of the belated season.
1️⃣ Quadrilateral (pictured above) The daughter of Frankel beat leading players, Powerful Breeze and Love, in the Fillies Mile, and looked the type to grow up over the winter. Can be made plenty of use of in the Guineas and will get 1m 2f.
She seems a worthy favourite who will have to go into your wallet at some stage, if only as a saver. But at this point, with French and Irish potentially still locked out, I shall take five times her price about Alpen Rose.
2️⃣ Alpen Rose Though behind Born With Pride over a mile at Newmarket, she kept on third to Powerful Breeze in the May Hill and looked very much one likely to offer more as a three-year-old.
There might still be a bit of 33-1 with Corals about this lengthy daughter of Sea The Stars, but 26.0 BETDAQ Sportsbook and 25-1 Ladbrokes reveals a trend towards her at a price. I backed her to win 50 points (2pts at 26.0).
3️⃣ Born With Pride Big rangy sort as a juvenile, with a devouring gallop; and breeding is packed with stamina. Oaks type, unless ground is deep.
4️⃣ Raffle Prize Queen Mary winner who took on the colts in the Morny, beaten a neck by Earthlight with Arizona fourth. That would make her the winner here, but will she be overtaken by the three late developers?
5️⃣ Daahyeh Same story as Raffle Prize (whom she beat on the Rowley Mile but was beaten by on the July Course).
Won the Albany and second to Love in the Moyglare but will her hard juvenile races leave their mark and make her vulnerable to late developers?
6️⃣ Cloak Of Spirits Well-related, not punished in her first season, but thereabouts in the May Hill (plenty of money for her that day) and in the Rockfel.
ALSO RAN: Boomer, Dark Lady, Jaariyah, Summer Romance. French and Irish possibles not included.
