RUNAWAY NAP WINS AT BETDAQ VALUE FOR DAQMAN: Daqman’s nap absolutely ran away from a 12-strong field of novices at Windsor yesterday, and BETDAQ bettors ran away with the odds, as an even-money offer on the morning of the race. First Winter (WON 4-7) made all and stretched almost four lengths clear of the runner-up, with the third a further seven lengths back.
NEWS: Love swerves Saturday’s Irish Oaks to go to York.
NAP: Today’s best bet runs in the final race ay Ayr at 8.30pm.
PASSION FOLLOWS CAPRI FOOTSTEPS
⚠️ HEADS UP: Ennistymon will try to step up on her bridesmaid double – second in both Ribblesdale and Epsom Oaks – with her stablemate nemesis Love swerving Saturday’s Irish Oaks.
Ennistymon was nine lengths adrift at Epsom but Love will go to the Yorkshire Oaks instead as a stepping-stone to the Arc de Triomphe.
Capri’s sister, Passion, fifth at Epsom in her third race of the season, will join Aidan O’Brien stablemate Ennistymon in the Curragh line-up.
Interesting that Capri had also run three times, and was sixth in the Epsom Derby, before finally scaling the heights and taking the Irish Derby at the Curragh in the July at the main expense of Cracksman.
FORTUNE COOKIES: Fancy Blue (Irish Oaks, Saturday) and Miss O’Connor (4.45 Group 2, Sunday), both at the Curragh.
⚠️ HEADS UP: Stats fans are looking forward to the Rose Bowl at Newbury on Saturday. The results by stall of this 6f Listed over the decade have been: 1, 3, 4, 2, 5, 1, 3, 1, 2, 4.
⚠️ HEADS UP: Pierre-Charles Boudot, leading the French jockeys’ title with 101 winners, has chances of a Group-race double or a greedy treble at Longchamp today via Measure Of Time (1.00), Bonne Idee (1.35) and San Huberto (3.25).
San Huberto (aged four) is the youngster in the Prix Maurice de Nieuil. He’s already beaten Called To The Bar but faces English raiders Red Verdon (Frankie Dettori) and Secret Advisor (James Doyle).
Volkan Star (Wlliam Buick) knows the time of day against Measure Of Time, having beaten Thunderous at Newmarket, before that one stopped a gamble on Highest Ground in the Dante on Saturday.
TIDE WON’T TURN FOR RIDESON
⭕ 2.05 Bath I think the market is wrong here. Rideson favourite – not in my book.
Form figures of 23-22222 and a beaten favourite on SIX of those seven runs. Good luck with that project.
The problem for her supporters is that there are a host of improvers – from big yards too.
The obvious danger is Sun Tide who put in a perfectly satisfactory debut run at Kempton when second to Maurimo and Ralph Beckett’s runner should come on plenty for that start.
Magical Dragon also has a chance after his course and distance third on debut and the Clive Cox stable remain in top form.
ALBA LOOKS MORE THAN ABLE
⭕ 5.00 Ripon Alba Del Sole is only 3 wins from 24 but was winning for the second time in three starts last time out at Leicester.
Her trainer Robyn Brisland is in such good form and Alba Del Sole might well be able to continue to strike whilst the iron is hot.
She’s up 7lb but still appeared to have plenty in hand at Leicester where she won by two lengths but was value for a lot more.
This doesn’t look a tough contest. Second favourite Aghast has blinkers on for the first time but trainer Michael Appleby appears to have gone off the boil with 3 winners from 54 races and that now has to be a concern.
The blinkers will also need to bring about an improvement as she ran poorly at Kempton two starts ago when last of 10 and struggled to get home over six furlongs at Thirsk last time out.
Point Of Woods is quite short in the market despite looking well handicapped and hasn’t always run well after a lengthy break.
BUBBLES ON ICE FOR 8.30pm
⭕ 8.30 Ayr A late NAP for me on Tuesday with Champagne Terri in the closer at Ayr.
She hasn’t been beaten far in two starts this season but the key might well be the step up in trip and the better ground. She seems more effective on quicker ground (even though once winning on soft).
Alexanderthegreat reappeared after a 568 day break to finish fourth at Redcar last month and would be a danger if building on that form which is far from guaranteed.
