HALFWAY HOUSE DAY 2: CHAMPION JOCKEYS: Who will be champion jockey? Which ones are winners for the punter? Daqman checks out the profits and losses which mean more than winners. It’s the second day of his series.
2/1 WINNER FROM TWO BETS: DAQMAN made his profit on Monday thanks to Songkran WON 2/1 at Haydock – his NAP was a non runner so the week started with a profit of 6.8 points.
MARQUAND CHAMPION FOR PROFIT
⚠️ HEADS UP Follow the top jockeys is more true today than it’s ever been with trainers not wanting any mistake in catching up on lost time and money.
But I can’t remember a year when it’s so borne out in the results that putting your money in good hands is a vital part of your form studies.
The champion, Oisin Murphy (61 wins), is setting the pace but Tom Marquand (54) and William Buick (51) have admitted that they intend to ‘go for the title’ and anything can happen in the last three months.
The good news is that six of the eight leading riders are showing a profit to level stakes, notably Marquand, second in the table but a long way the leader for profitable investment.
The top four for betting returns with horses they love and can ’expect’ in the next six weeks are:
54 Tom Marquand (+131) ADDEYBB, Irish Champion Stakes, September
43 Hollie Doyle (+44) KAESO, well backed at Ascot; ‘hidden horse.’
38 Kevin Stott (+76) HELLO YOUMZAIN, Haydock Sprint, September
41 Jim Crowley (+24) MUSTASHRY, more to come for Sir Michael Stoute, possibly York. Jim doesn’t so much love him as love to win with a horse who tries to be boss.
SMILE AT A BETDAQ 20.0
⭕ 2.30 Beverley Pull Harder Con might struggle to notch up his hat-trick after wins at Thirsk and Bath last time out.
He’s gone up another couple of pounds for a narrow head win at Bath and also has a tricky high draw (12) to navigate here.
It’s a similar story with Heartstar who although better drawn (5) is also up a couple of pounds for another small margin victory at Bath.
Further down the betting Oriental Splendour, who races out of stall 2, would have chances on his best form which includes two course and distance wins but his trainer Ruth Carr is 0-24.
Alisia R is drawn well (4) but is having her first start since January and hasn’t run well fresh before.
I’ll take a chance at huge odds with Mightaswellsmile from stall 6. With a career CV of 1-31 it’ll be no surprise to see that I’m playing in the BETDAQ place market too but she has run well in two starts this season at Redcar and Catterick and has run well here before in the past (50/1 3rd in 2018).
DAQMAN NAPS A RASCAL!
⭕ 3.30 Beverley Ventura Rascal looks the nap on the card after his staying on win at Catterick two weeks ago and looks the type to improve further. Trainer Kevin Ryan remains in top form.
Elixsoft won well at Hamilton but is up 5lb and that might halt the mares progress.
There’s been a little morning support for the Roger Fell trained Tadaawol who is out again quickly after finishing sixth on Monday but the trainer is out of form with 40 runners since a win.
MIDNITE TO STRIKE
⭕ 4.15 Catterick Midnite Bride (another trained by Kevin Ryan) is given another chance – despite being a runner-up in her last two starts.
You always need to look for something different rather than expecting the same result from the same race conditions and I think the key today is the step up in trip.
She stayed on really here well here over six furlongs last time out behind Lady Nectar and should relish the extra furlong.
