COOKIES ARE HOT FOR YORK TOMORROW: Fortune Cookies, which landed 21 winners all told over Jumps, is back for the Flat with horses to follow which range from handicap sprinters to prospective Derby winners. Look out for runners at the York Dante meeting, starting tomorrow.
‘FORTUNE COOKIES’ 12 TO FOLLOW
CHANGINGOFTHEGUARD (Galileo out of Excellent Art mare, 3yo colt) Disposed of odds-on New London in soft ground for the Chester Vase, and the type to raise his game again. Ryan Moore likely to choose Stone Age for the Derby but this is not just a deputy dawg (Aidan O’Brien).
COROEBUS (Dubawi out of a Teofilo mare, 3c) Traveled well, showing strong extra drive from the dip in Newmarket 2,000 Guineas to go clear of his Craven Stakes winning stablemate, Native Trail, with Luxembourg third (Charlie Appleby).
DESERT CROWN (Nathaniel out of a Green Desert mare, 3c) Likely favourite for Thursday’s Dante trial at York, and backed in for Epsom from 33-1 to 6-1. Son of Nathaniel who made rapid progress (24lb) as a 3yo in Spring and early summer. Desert Crown won his maiden at Nottingham (soft) as a 2yo and has been working in Classic style (Sir Michael Stoute).
INSPIRAL (Frankel out of a Selkirk mare, 3f) Unbeaten, including May Hill and Fillies Mile. Had to miss the 1,000 Guineas but now has the Heron Stakes at Sandown Park this month and then the Coronation Stakes at Royal Ascot as her targets (Team Gosden)
LAMPANG (Dandy Man gelding, 5) was regarded as one of the best the stable had had but didn’t convert the high opinion to the track until gelded and strolled home, only having to be nudged along at Ayr (6f) last month (Tim Easterby)
LUXEMBOURG (Camelot out of a Danehill dancer mare, 3c) Beresford and Doncaster Futurity winner. Hot Derby favourite until held up in his work following third in the 2,000 Guineas after early setback in the race and not effective on the course (Aidan O’Brien)
PERFECT POWER (Ardad out of a Frozen Power mare, 3c) Winner of the Norfolk Stakes, Prix Morny and Middle Park as a 2yo, and reappeared with a decisive Greenham success. Guineas too far for him and the target now is the Commonwealth Cup at Royal Ascot (Richard Fahey)
STONE AGE (Galileo, dam by Anabaa, 3c) Well beaten in the Lagardere (heavy) and second in the Criterium De Saint-Cloud (very soft) as a juvenile but, after convincing maiden win at Navan (1m 2f good), pulverised the Leopardstown Derby Trial field, responding to a forceful Ryan Moore ride by galloping on strongly.
One form link is Duke Of Sessa, three-and-threequarter lengths third to Piz Badile and Buckaroo in the Ballysax (1m 2f good), also at Leopardstown, but nine lengths down in the Trial, never able to challenge (Aidan O’Brien).
TEONA (Sea The Stars out of an Authorized mare, 4f) Twice beaten by Oaks winner, Snowfall, but dramatic improvement to reverse the form in the Vermeille and, short of room, third, in the Breeders Cup turf (Roger Varian)
TOY (Galileo out of a Storm Cat mare, 3f) Sister to Gleneagles and Marvellous, did not break her maiden until last month. Likes soft ground so targets Sunday’s French 1,000 Guineas (Aidan O’Brien)
TRUESHAN (Planteur out of a General Holme mare, 6g) Cup-race hat-trick: Goodwood Cup, Prix Du Cadran, British Champions Long Distance Cup, all run with cut in the ground, so Friday’s Yorkshire Cup bid depends on rain (Alan King).
WITH THE MOONLIGHT (Frankel out of a Dubawi mare, 3f) Oaks or Ribblesdale contender, depending on improvement at home, after winning the Pretty Polly at Newmarket. Late developer who will be a price (Charlie Appleby)
I COULDN’T BE APPIER
⭕ 4.45 Beverley It’s not the biggest shock in the world to see Sean Woods send out Appier again under a statutory 6lb penalty before the handicapper has his say.
He looked a very well handicapped horse when bolting up by four a quarter lengths here last week over the 1m 2f trip and the extra distance could suit him even better.
In fairness, the handicapper didn’t have much to work on based on his first three starts where he had been beaten 33, 22 and 10 lengths.
It wasn’t just the distance between first and second last week. The full winning distances were more like a National Hunt race: 4 1/4, 8, 4 lengths.
He has some really modest rivals in opposition and should leave them trailing in his wake – again.
BLUE LIGHTS FLASHING AGAIN
⭕ 7.00 Newcastle With a strike-rate of 10-27, Charlie Appleby’s runners are generally picking themselves at the moment and the Newmarket maestro saddled another impressive winner on Monday with Modern News in the Listed Royal Windsor Stakes.
That was his only runner of the day and he goes for the selective strike option again today with sole runner State Event at Newcastle.
This one finished fifth in the Wood Ditton at Newmarket on debut and the form of that (which is usually solid anyway) has taken an immediate boost when runner-up Secret State (stablemate to State Event) won at Chester last week.
I think that gives him both a form and likely fitness edge over main BETDAQ BETTING EXCHANGE danger Adjourn who should be suited by the step up in trip.
SUPPOSE IT’S ROSE’S
⭕ 7.30 Newcastle Rose’s Girl was beaten a neck on her handicap debut at Wetherby last month and can go one better despite her 2lb hike in the weights.
The form looks solid enough against Dougies Dream (beaten favourite last time out and trainer now 1-26) and Muveran who looked an awkward ride on his reappearance at Thirsk.

What are points? Points facilitate a staking plan, which is the secret to creating profit. One point is whatever you choose: a pound, a euro, or whatever ….
Start with a bank and decide how much you can afford to lose over a period of time, and determine the size of your bets accordingly. Daqman makes this variation every day.
