ZINC PLATED NAP

⭕ 4.55 Beverley Zinc White appeared out of his depth and over a trip slightly too far at Royal Ascot last time out when down the field in the Ascot Stakes but is surely worth another chance in this lower class stayers handicap now that the ground has again come in his favour.

All three of his career wins have come on soft ground including at Chester in May when he won the Chester Plate at 33/1.

Chief Betdaq Betting Exchange rival Coltor has similar credentials coming back after disappointing at Ascot but in his case I am less certain about the forecast soft ground being in his favour and the current trainer form speaks heavily in favour of Zinc White.

EIGHT MILES OVER SIX FURLONGS

⭕ 5.05 Lingfield Eight Mile has done the bulk of his racing over longer trips but proved last week at Brighton this could be his optimum distance.

Partnered for the first time by Billy Loughnane who rides again today, the pair fairly scooted clear to put distance between themselves and the second and third and could easily follow up here under the statutory 6lb penalty.

For me it’s always a positive sign when the trainer gets them out again quickly under the fixed penalty as they may well be thinking that the handicapper will take a harsher view. They are so keen to run him again he’s also entered up for the 7.40 at Yarmouth tomorrow !!

There’s also no doubting the current form of his trainer George Scott who has sent out three winners from his last 10 runners with a further three placed.

The filly Lahina Bay chases the hat-trick but she is up another 4lb after a short head win at Salisbury and by an even shorter nose last time out at Windsor. It’s a game of fine margins and ordinarily the weight increase will stop that progress.

A bigger danger may come from Arbaawi who was running back into form before taking a 151 day break. He has run well after an absence previously.

ENDING WITH A SMILE

⭕ 5.25 Beverley Look Back Smiling hasn’t won since his debut at Pontefract but gets his optimum distance and ground today so there can be no excuses.

The handicapper has also given him a chance – keeping him on the same mark as last time out when he went down by just a short head to Pisanello at Hamilton.

That was a decent effort and he can see off the challenges of Ugo Gregory (previous course and distance winner but on current long losing sequence) and Dr Rio (winner over course and distance last time out but looked weaker event and up 4lb).
