5-4 AND 7-2 IN BACK-TO-BACK NAPS: Daqman napped Burnham (WON 5-4) yesterday, following Novellist (WON 7-2) on Sunday, and goes for a hat-trick of best bets today at Beverley.

TWO 10-POINT BETS LAND DOUBLE: He doubled Burnham with a second 10-point bet, Couloir Extreme (WON 5-4), and just missed a treble when Ticking Katie (2nd 3-1 from 12.5 on BETDAQ) failed to land a gamble.

70 POINTS PROFIT IN TWO DAYS: That took his profit in two days to 70 points after Pacific Rim (WON 11-2) and Novellist (WON 7-2) on Sunday, giving him Sunday-Monday results, race by race, of 1221121.

Put a ring round this one for the St Leger. You can back it more or less exclusively on BETDAQ right now; as no bookie dare quote the beast in the Oddschecker list this morning.

But Brass Ring is likely to come alive in the Doncaster market after the July meeting at Newmarket and is the kind of late, late developer you need for the autumn campaign.

Though all eyes are on Ruler Of The World’s renewed conflict with Libertarian at The Curragh on Saturday, I’ve already looked ahead at one that might overtake them, come the Arc. That was Novellist, winner of Sunday’s Grand Prix.

Now I’m putting up Brass Ring at 31.0 on BETDAQ this morning for the St Leger, as a last-gasp Classic for John Gosden after the current champion trainers leanest of lean seasons.

The man who fought off Aidan O’Brien last season and landed £3.7 million in prizemoney has slumped to eighth in the table this year, off only £612,000 so far. I predict a better second half of the season.

Brass Ring, capable of winning at middle distances but bred more for marathon stamina, is my idea of a Cup horse one day or, at this stage of his career, the St Leger or the Cesarewitch.

In fact, he is related to a 1m4f Group winner on the Flat and 2m 5f hurdle and chase horses. Winner of a classy Newmarket race in early May, he should maintain his progress at Newmarket.

Meanwhile, I think Roger Varian must like the ice-cream at Brighton.

He seems to love the course, where his record is 67%, improving to 75% if you take only his 3-4 in three-year-old-plus races.

And his current form on all courses in the last fortnight is 50% win and place from 34 runners. So it is that Panettone (2.15) gets my vote in the opener.

Panettone is a CD winner and may have most to fear from another one, Steely. Beacon Lady is not out of it, yet another one with form over the trip at Brighton, but she was beaten into second and has never won beyond a mile.

Right alongside the Varian figures for the last fortnight is Peter Bowen, also 50% (7-14), and also with one runner today.

Though his record at Newton Abbot is not so inspiring, he seems to have a young chaser with a bright future in Kian’s Delight (7.05).

There wasn’t much between Baby Mix and Kian’s Delight over hurdles (rated 2lb apart) but Baby Mix is an in-and-out performer (the kind that goes 1010) and has just had a narrow CD win.

Kian’s Delight, on the other hand, kept his form well over hurdles (witness his sequence of 21121) and looked like a horse with a future when romping home at Fakenham.

Another 50% trainer (with two-year-olds) is Saeed Bin Suroor, who seems to regard Newbury as his juveniles’ nursery, and runs Spring Carnival (7.25) there tonight.

After a desperately poor Ascot, the yard has sprung to life with three two-year-old winners at Newmarket (two) and Wolverhampton, and current overall form of the yard is 1312.

The money keeps going down for Winslow Arizona (8.00), favourite every time. The return to a mile should help but Imperial Glance is a formidable danger.
