UNBEATEN DAQMAN HITS 287 POINTS PROFIT: Daqman switched from the Swinton Hurdle to the French Guineas and to an evening meeting at Windsor, no trouble at all, in a sensational harvest of winners which has reaped 287 points profit in five days to recommended stakes. After SIX big-race winners, he was unbeaten yesterday:
THREE OUT OF THREE
THREE DOUBLES
A 29-1 TREBLE
AN EVEN-MONEY SUPERNAP
WWW (yesterday’s trio): WON 4-1 Desert Path, WON 2-1 James Watt, WON 1-1 Bandsman (supernap)
WWWWWW (big-race six hit): WON 8-1, WON 13-2, WON 5-1, WON 5-2, WON 11-4, WON 8-11 (another supernap)
STATS AND FACTS FOR DANTE AND MUSIDORA: The York Dante meeting starts tomorrow, and Daqman checks out stats and facts, and some of the runners, involved in the Derby and Oaks trials, plus the reappearance of one of the big sprint stars.
YORK GARDEN PARTY FOR GOSDEN
DANTE STAKES (Thursday): Have you found the Derby winner yet? York this week, in particular the Dante Stakes, is the last chance for a star to emerge from the trials.
Authorized, North Light, Motivator, Golden Horn all did the York-Epsom double, and there have also been three seconds, a third and a fourth this century, while another Dante winner went on to take the Irish Derby.
* Dante Acceptors: Crossed Baton, James Cook, Merlin Magic, Mildenberger, Nordic Lights, Roaring Lion, Wells Farhh Go, White Mocha, Zabriskie.
MUSIDORA STAKES (tomorrow): The Musidora has cut up badly. Makes me glad I took the BETDAQ 18.0 Perfect Clarity, for the Oaks with so few decent fillies around. Or so it seems.
John Gosden, who has form figures of 113-111 in the Musidora, will saddle Highgarden, only third in a class-4 novice at Sandown, and with the second filly home, Give And Take, taking her on again.
But Highgarden is a Nathaniel, a late developer who won the King George and became sire of Gosden’s great ace, Enable.
Give And Take is out of a sister to Irish Derby and Gold Cup winner, Fame And Glory.
DUKE OF YORK STAKES (tomorrow): This could be a big year for Clive Cox, poised for a Classic breakthrough with Perfect Clarity.
Now here’s Harry Angel, his Haydock Sprint and July Cup champion, back as the elder statesman of sprint, but still only four. Despite his penalty, expected to have too much toe for Brando and Tasleet.
MICHAEL SEELY MEMORIAL (Friday, now the Irish Champions Weekend Fillies’ Stakes) David Simcock could so easily have left French 1,000 Guineas winner, Teppal for this. Now we’ll be looking at the Gosden and the Stoute.
Derrymore (Gosden) and Homeopathic (Stoute) are not only by the same sire, Dark Angel, but they ran in the same novices’ race at Wolverhampton early in the month, when Derrymore won half a length, ‘comfortably’ according to the form book.
TO THE MANOR BORN
5.15 Chepstow John Betjeman sets a fair enough standard having finished third on the all-weather last time out and runner-up on heavy ground at Bath on debut. However, this fast ground will be a different kettle of fish to him and I’m not sure I want to take too short a price.
The filly Mayfair Madame looks over-priced in the market at a BETDAQ 5.2 at the time of writing. There was nothing wrong with her debut run at Windsor when a neck second to Gypsy Spirit and the third and fourth from that race have run well enough subsequently.
5.45 Beverley Sir Michael Stoute seems to have found the perfect opportunity for Georgian Manor to get off the mark. The three-year-old has improved with each start having finished last of six on debut at Newmarket last season.
He ran a cracker last time out when only narrowly failing to catch the long odds-on Emblazoned and should get off the mark in this company. He’s drawn 13, which is far from perfect here, but the draw effect doesn’t seem as brutal in years gone by and I’m hopeful he has the class to overcome the wide berth.
Chief Justice is the chief rival but with four second places from his six starts he is already looking both exposed and eminently beatable.
He’s also quirky and gave way several lengths at the start on his first start of the season at Thirsk. The blinkers are now on for the first time today.
The filly Fascinator shaped well enough on debut at Newcastle. It was only a four runner race but she showed enough to be competitive here if training on.
8.20 Chepstow Four non runners here including the well fancied Ocean Gale and Massini’s Trap. This might now open the door for Sheila’s Fancy who will hopefully be revitalised by the cheekpieces on for the first time.
She’s back after a break and tries this trip on fast turf ground for the first time – hopefully all factors in her favour. It’s a much weaker race with the non runners and won’t take much winning.
Market leader The Way You Dance is returning after a 195 day break.
