A GOLDEN NAP

4.20 Brighton today Single digit field sizes across the seven races at Brighton this afternoon and the only standout bet for me comes in the 4.20 where Panning For Gold is expected to make light of his 6lb penalty for last week’s Yarmouth win.

There’s every chance the David Simcock trained runner is ludicrously well handicapped and it’s not surprising. The handicapper had very little to go on after his first four all-weather starts where he was beaten an aggregate of 61 lengths and failed to place better than ninth.

The penny dropped big time though at Yarmouth on his first turf start where he seemed to relish the quick conditions that he gets again this afternoon. He won going away and still ran green so further improvement looks likely.

The usual caveat of low grade horses following up back to back is in the back of my mind but this one could be a simple case of mathematics and him having so much in hand that he can simply fall in.

He’s already one up on his eight rivals in that he has managed to win a race – something his opposition have failed to do between them.

I thought Deep Spirit looked a little overpriced on Betdaq Betting Exchange but am sticking with Panning For Gold for today’s NAP.

WATCHING PAINT ON DRY?

7.00 Ayr Painters Palette was 2 from 2 for Rebecca Menzies after he joined the yard from Dermot Weld but was a little disappointing at Ripon last time out when only third. The soft ground might have been a contributing factor but then again he has yet to face ground as quick as tonight either.

He looks worth opposing at the top of the market with Hortzadar who was running in class 2’s at York, Epsom and Ascot last year and has been steadily dropping down the weights – hinting at a return to winning form recently.

EVENING RAINBOW

9.00 Wetherby Nibras Rainbow might be worth the wait for the final race on Wetherby’s flat card.

He seemed to show improved form for the first time fitting of blinkers at Lingfield last time out when going down by just a nose. He seems just as effective on the turf and has a win over tonight’s trip and ground to his name at Leicester.

He should prove too strong for Azeezan who hinted at form at Kempton last time out and starts life in handicap company off a fair mark.

Start with a bank and decide how much you can afford to lose over a period of time, and determine the size of your bets accordingly. Daqman makes this variation every day.
