SWEET SIXTEEN: THE TOP FILLIES FOR 2014: Daqman finds that Charles Hills has a ‘massive’ hand of fillies for the 2014 Classic season but rates the French winner of the Cheveley Park, Vorda, top of his table of 16. Says Daqman: ‘Vorda and Rizeena ran very close to the colts, and with the Arc winner, Treve, staying in training as a four-year-old, it could be another fillies’ year next year.’

BREEDERS CUP A WEEKEND FOR WINNERS: Now look out for Daqman’s horses to follow for the jumps season. But first, on Thursday, he’ll be checking out Breeders Cup weekend (Friday and Saturday) at Santa Anita, which saw him among the winners in 2012. And tomorrow, he’ll comb through five BETDAQ-sponsored races at the Kempton Park evening meeting.

115+ VORDA (Philippe Sogorb) The daughter of Orpen met her one defeat in five starts when she faced the colts in the Prix Morny. Even so, only No Nay Never could beat her, with Rizeena third.

Vorda had won three in a row, including the Robert Papin, and she soon picked up the winning thread when she won the Cheveley Park Stakes.

Bred more for speed than stamina, but she comfortably beat Princess Noor and Kiyoshi (Joyeuse sixth) in that final race of a dynamic season. In her winning races, she beat winners of 52 other events: WWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW

114 RIZEENA (Clive Brittain) Queen Mary winner who was beaten by the colts in the Morny, before restating her case to be top juvenile filly in the Moyglare (though hard-luck stories for second and third, Kiyoshi and Tapestry) Finally, upped to the Fillies’ Mile, she was second to by Chriselliam.

An animal of such exposure in such a long two-year-old season as Rizeena’s rarely goes on to three-year-old Classic glory but she should get the mile in good company next year.

Winners behind her when she has won totalled 54 (every one of the 28-strong Queen Mary field has won races): WWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW

112+ CHRISELLIAM (Charles Hills) The trainer insists that we didn’t see the best of this filly until she beat Rizeena but we have to allow a few pounds for Rizeena that day, as potentially not at her best after a long, hard season.

But the Fillies’ Mile was a field of all winners, and the third horse had won the May Hill Stakes at Doncaster, officially rating 105.

The snag for ante-post backers for the 2014 Classics is that both Rizeena and Chriselliam are by Iffraaj, whose best so far – Wootton Bassett and Hot Streak – have fallen short of the top rung: WWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW

112 KIYOSHI (Charles Hills) I’ll leave Kiyoshi on the same mark as stablemate Chriselliam, as a twin winter headache Charles Hills will enjoy.

But that there is very little between her and Tapestry at the end of the season, and that their form reads about the same as the winner, Rizeena, on their threeparts of a length Moyglare defeat (both slightly unlucky), suggests that they are all in a heap.

One of them will train on the best but, usually in such circumstances, a late developer sails by to beat them in the Spring. Winners of 35 races have finished behind Kiyoshi when she’s won:
WWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW.

112+ MISS FRANCE (Andre Fabre) Much easier winner of the Oh So Sharp Stakes than the bare form would suggest and Indonesienne, the filly she had beaten at Chantilly in August, went on to win the Marcel Boussac fillies’ criterium on Arc day.

Further collateral form in that the Marcel Boussac third, Queen Catrine, had run up to Princess Noor at Ascot in July and Lucky Kristale in the Lowther Stakes at York: WWWWWWWWWWWWWWW

112 TAPESTRY (Aidan O’Brien) We thought Tapestry and Kiyoshi had the potential to catch Rizeena when she slipped. They still have it to do. Winners that Tapestry beat when she won: only WWWWWWWW

111 LUCKY KRISTALE (George Margarson) Her best form was in defeating Rizeena at Newmarket in July, albeit in receipt of a few pounds, with Queen Catrine third and Princess Noor fifth. Again beat Queen Catrine in the Lowther Stakes: WWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW

111+ INDONESIENNE (Christophe Ferland) French Provinces winner but backed to score at Chantilly in August and only denied by Miss France, who was receiving 4lb.

Took another massive step forward when surprise winner of the fillies’ criterium (Marcel Boussac) on Arc day, with the Lowther Stakes runner-up in third, and Sandiva behind: WWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW

110 PRINCESS NOOR (Roger Varian) Beat Queen Catrine when blinkered first time but split Vorda and Kiyoshi in the Cheveley Park. Difficult to assess but blinkered animals are unlikely to progress to the top: WWWWWWWWWWWW

110 QUEEN CATRINE (Charles Hills) Beaten five times out of six: WWWWW. But Charles Hill, who also trains Cambridge, Chriselliam and Kiyoshi, clearly has a massive hand of 2014 three-year-old fillies.

108 AL THAKHIRA (Marco Botti) Bred for speed but easily won the Rockfel (7f good to soft) with the odds-on Oh So Sharp runner-up Lightning Thunder only fourth: WWWWWWWWWWWWWW

108 IHTIMAL (Saeed Bin Suroor) May Hill Stakes winner who ran third to Chriselliam and Rizeena in the Fillies’ Mile: WWWWWWWWWWWW

106 SANDIVA (Richard Fahey) Was the early ratings leader, then challenger to Rizeena. But she got stuck at Group-3 level, second to Kiyoshi in the Albany Stakes at Royal Ascot, then winner of the Calvados in Deauville over another Group-3 placer: WWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW

105+ MY TITANIA (John Oxx) Late-developing daughter of Sea The Stars was an easy winner of the Park Stakes: WWWWW

105 AMAZING MARIA (Ed Dunlop) Part of an impressive first season for her sire, Mastercraftsman (Kingston Hill, The Grey Gatsby), the grey had back-to-back wins at Goodwood, stepping up from her maiden to win the Prestige Stakes: WWWW

103 JOYEUSE (Lady Cecil) Half-sister to Frankel, badly drawn when good third in a hood to Kiyoshi and Sandiva in the Albany.

Back on top in a Listed but disappointing behind Vorda, Princess Noor and Kiyoshi in the Cheveley Park on firm ground and without the hood. WWWWWWWWWWWW
