BLITZED: Tuesday’s cards have been blitzed by non runners. Over 50 and still counting after a deluge of rain overnight.

CHEPSTOW NAP: DAQMAN turns the rain into a positive and looks for the soft ground specialists at Chepstow. He’s found two on the card including his NAP.

GOING CHANGES: THEY’RE GOING HOME

Plenty of non runners on Tuesday’s cards especially at Chepstow and Wetherby with the deluge of June showers.

Chepstow has been worse affected with 21 pulled out at the time of writing after an inch of rain has fallen inside the last 48 hours.

102 horses were declared on Sunday when the going was good (good to firm in places) but by Monday clerk of the course Keith Ottesen swiftly changed the going to soft as the rain came in.

He said: “We’ve gone to good ground on Monday morning at about 8am after 6mm of rain through Sunday and overnight into Monday. We had 10mm on Monday by 3.30pm, so it was pretty easy to call it soft,” Ottesen explained.

“There was no point waiting until Tuesday morning to change it, with people travelling a long way with their horses. We ended up with 15mm in total on Monday and from midnight we’ve had another 6mm, bringing the total since Sunday to 24mm, which is near enough an inch of rain.”

Wetherby has also been hit by the rain for their eight race card on the flat. There are 19 non runners at the time of writing.

The going is good to soft, soft in places but clerk of the course Jonjo Sanderson expects a further ease in the going description before racing gets underway at 2.10pm.

And just to prove how bonkers the Great British weather is…… it’s good to firm at Great Yarmouth!

EVERY CLOUD HAS SILVER LINING

DAQMAN always like an angle and we get one today at Chepstow courtesy of the rain. Many punters will now be put off the card with the spate of non runners but there’s a good opportunity to find the horses that are adaptable ground wise as there will be plenty that will struggle on conditions vastly different to what they were declared on.

2.00 Chepstow Holy Tiber has surely hit the jackpot in the opener? She made a winning 20/1 debut on soft ground at Doncaster and gets the same soft ground again this afternoon.

She stayed on really well at Donny and should relish the extra furlong this afternoon and looks set to defy her penalty which is countered by the three pound claim of Kieran Shoemark who takes over from Steve Donohoe.

At around 2.42 in the BETDAQ market, the combination of experience, ground and distance make her a NAP to start the card.

The debutants are all weak in the market and it would be a be ask to make a winning debut under these conditions – it might be a case of them finishing like chasers not sprinters today.

Richard Hannon saddles two and the pick looks to be Miss Mo Brown Bear who was an eye catching fourth over this trip on debut at Kempton on the all-weather. The form of that looks OK given the sixth came out to run a good race subsequently.

4.20 Yarmouth This class 4 the best on offer at the seaside track and it could be at the mercy of the Amy Murphy trained Thaqaffa who made all to win well at Nottingham last time out.

He’s up 6lb for the win but there are so many question marks about his five rivals including whether Singapore Sling will be fully wound up after an absence of 167 days.

5.30 Chepstow This could be a well named race – the Labyrinth Challenge. The final race on the card on chewed up testing ground run over 1m 4f. Don’t look for horses that get the trip – look for horses that get well beyond the trip.

The one that stands our for me is the grey Innoko who relishes the ground and has proved over hurdles he has the stamina. He’s knocking on the door with his current form and this stamina test could be just what is needed.

He was a soft ground winner here over 1m 2f a year ago and races off the same handicap mark today.

Double figures on the BETDAQ win market and hopefully 2/1 on the place market he looks the play in a race where five have already been pulled out.
