KEEN COLIN GIVES DAQMAN THE EDGE WITH DASHING 11-2 STRIKE: Daqman’s Bank Holiday Monday luck was out at Epsom when Oisin Murphy couldn’t keep tabs on the leader of the Stanley Wootton Handicap with Corazan Espinado (2nd 11-2) and then the nap, Cemhaan (2nd 6-5), was slow away in the Amateurs’ Derby. But Colin Keane rode Daqman into profit with a dashing power ride on Harranda (WON 11-2) at Roscommon.

FORTUNE COOKIES: Quick Suzy remains the star of our two-year-olds, despite her defeat by Perfect Power in the Prix Morny; rain spoiled her chance but she is still on track for the Cheveley Park Stakes.

I had planned to put Tinderbox and Silk Romance in the list, after their one-two at Kempton and Silk Romance’s five-lengths follow up at Newmarket (July) on Friday, and I punted Tinderbox in this column in Saturday’s Prestige Stakes won by Mise En Scene.
But there were two shocks in store: firstly Tinderbox was a big price (5-1 to 7-1) in the approach to the Prestige, despite the Silk Romance romp the day before.
That was a warning and – in the race itself – Tinderbox ‘was never travelling,’ according to his jockey, Frankie Dettori.
The lesson is to keep watching the BETDAQ betting: you’ve taken what seemed value, but the market may tell you that you’re chasing fool’s gold. It’s the only way of knowing before the race or you’re just left with those hard–on-the-wallet excuses afterwards.

Eton Blue has a penalty for winning in a lower grade and I reckon the handicapper will regret giving Hey Teacher a mark of only 70.
Hey Teacher was long odds-on, beating nothing well, when he went clear at Ffos Las three weeks back, but he extended his lead by 11 lengths over an old rival from his second at Bath.
Rear-runner Angels Roc was slow away over 10 furlongs here last month, and Simon Dow’s Blue Beret came from the rear to win at Windsor in a lower grade.
