STAKING PLANS AND BETDAQ BETS

🗓️ DAILY DAQMAN Usually three bets at routine meetings, staked to win 10 or 12 points, sometimes 20, but where possible geared to a profit by adjusting stakes to offers, intending to finish in front or near-on break even with just one winner.

Prices that determine profit and loss are those taken on Betdaq Betting Exchange on the morning of the race.

★ DAILY NAP The best of the selections is awarded a nap. The daily nap won 111 times in 2023.

⭐ SUPERNAP Only occasionally, there may be a stronger nap (20pts stake). These are rarer in the early part of the year when the form is unsettled and the going is bad.

📈 DUTCHING and SAVING Sometimes there are two bets in one race, staked to show a profit whichever one wins. With only one strong selection, there may be a small-stakes saver bet.

🏇 BIG RACES With bigger odds available, there may be staking to win 50 (in a bull’s-eye bet) or, rarely, even 100 points. These are also the targets for ante-post bets.

🇻 VALUE CHALLENGE Feature races at the major meetings, and one or two besides, have both Daqman and Pricewise of the Racing Post looking for value.

Daqman is ahead on the principle of value, since he follows the BETDAQ markets, and his results will be to BETDAQ offers. But, for fairness, the winners in the Pricewise contest are assessed at SP to 10pt stakes.

✔️ Daqman has beaten Pricewise for winners in every one of 20 seasons covering the last 10 years.

GINA KNOW’S HER WAY AROUND HERE

⭕ 3.30 Fakenham At some tracks being a previous course and distance winner counts for more than at others. A case in point is Fakenham. Idiosyncratic – basically a square shape but undulating too with its tight bends.

Not all horses enjoy the experience so it becomes quite a positive factor and I’m hoping that’s the case with For Gina who is the only previous C&D winner in this (now) four runner event.

The Bryony Frost ridden mare bolted home by 11 lengths here in November. If I had to crab that form I’d say it was a weak event in which only three finished but is today’s race much better?

Certainly the 5lb rise in weights for such a commanding success doesn’t look over punitive and she is preferred to chief Betdaq Betting Exchange rival Hobbs Delight who escapes a penalty for a dead-heat success at Fontwell last time out over 2m 3f but he will likely need to improve again for the step-up in trip which isn’t guaranteed.

Despite the Fontwell win, he’s also not the most reliable character and needs to brush up his jumping.

Ben Lilly might be a bigger danger but the current form of trainer David Pipe (1 from 21) would have to be a concern.

THERE’S NO ESCAPE

⭕ 3.45 Ayr Escapeandevade won this last year in some style too and off a mark just 1lb higher is sure to take some beating again.

On the same heavy ground as today he jumped well and made all the running 12 months ago to win by 15 lengths.

Although last of four on his seasonal reappearance at Wetherby he was only beaten 10 lengths and should come on bundles for that run.

It’s competitive though, which helps make the market for us. Fia Fuinidh has shaped well in his first two starts over fences whilst Heritier did well on chase debut at Sedgefield but this looks a tougher class 4.

HEARD A WHISPER

⭕ 6.00 Wolverhampton Only one horse makes any kind of appeal in what looks an impossible looking Wolverhampton card and that’s Gypsy Whisper in this classified event.

The mare ran well here on Boxing Day when a close second to Have You A Minute and I would have thought a reproduction of that effort – off a 1lb LOWER mark could easily be good enough against some seriously out of form rivals.

Elusive Tiger was heading the Betdaq market when I looked this morning but this one was beaten 11 lengths last time out and has shown his best form over shorter trips. Not for me.

DAQMAN’S BETS:

3.30 Fakenham (win 10, nap)
BET 7.8pts win FOR GINA

3.45 Ayr (win 10)
BET 3.1pts win ESCAPEANDEVADE

6.00 Wolverhampton (win 10)
BET 5.0pts win GYPSY WHISPER

What are points? Points facilitate a staking plan, which is the secret to creating profit. One point is whatever you choose: a pound, a euro, or whatever ….

Start with a bank and decide how much you can afford to lose over a period of time, and determine the size of your bets accordingly. Daqman makes this variation every day.
