SIR DANCEALOT SUPPLEMENTED FOR BIG SPRINT: Today Daqman checks out some of the possibilities for Saturday’s Haydock Sprint (the dazzling Sir Dancealot is supplemented) and he has more big races in his sights tomorrow. In both stories, his accent is on trainer form.
FOLLOW THE CANDY MAN COMEBACK
He’s your Candy man. An autumn-handicaps sweetener, associated with astute placing of his horses, which turn up for you at a tasty price.
I can report that Henry Candy’s team have turned the corner, with scopes and blood-tests showing a return to health and potential winning form after a spell in the doldrums.
Aidan O’Brien is not the only one to suffer a sustained virus attack, but the Candy stable flagship, Limato, landed his Listed prep for Saturday’s Haydock Sprint and the team at Kingston Warren heaved a huge sigh of relief, as the ‘cold trainer’ label was replaced by a swift treble for a 35% strike rate in a few days last week.
More to come now of the stuff that punters dream of, the ‘hidden horses’, including maidens held up in their work, but especially handicappers who have slid gently down the ratings.
Expect Candy’s low ebb of 1-13 from his two-year-olds and only 5-46 from his three-year-olds to be corrected.
Favourite for Saturday’s Haydock Sprint is Harry Angel, even shorter now that the second favourite, Blue Point, has been rerouted to the Flying Five at The Curragh.
Supplemented for the race is David Elsworth’s Sir Dancealot, who is 4-6 since June after being gelded in the Spring.
He’s landed a Group 3 and two Group 2 at 7f since beaten only about two lengths by Harry Angel at the York Dante meeting (6lb higher now, which almost exactly eats up that missing couple of lengths).
DUTY TO HIT LINE FIRST
3.05 Goodwood Drying ground at Goodwood today, the track reporting via the BHA web site this morning ‘Good (Good to Soft in places)’.
When Line Of Duty was beaten at odds-on at Haydock last time out it looked, at face value, a disappointing effort. However, the winner Great Scot has gone on to finish third in Listed company at Deauville (arguably unlucky loser) and I think it’s fair enough to upgrade the form retrospectively on the evidence. The Charlie Appleby trained runner is worth another chance in this company.
Calculation, owned by Her Majesty The Queen and trained by Sir Michael Stoute was third of five on debut at Sandown (beaten nearly nine lengths) and should come on bundles for the experience but may optimally need a longer trip even at this early stage of his career.
Despite the heroics of Sea Of Class at York, the overall form of the William Haggas is a little colder (4 winners from last 40). He runs Pablo Escobarr here who makes his stable debut after a bitterly disappointing effort at Haydock last time when going off the 4/9 favourite and beaten 17 lengths. He’s surely better than that but can’t be backed with any degree of confidence here and a watching brief is advised.
4.45 Goodwood An intriguing conundrum of a fillies handicap. My starting point was that Sweet Pursuit should turn around Lingfield form with Porto Ferro but neither are looking particularly well handicapped. Porto Ferro is up another 4lb for her recent Windsor success for example and I think the two market leaders are vulnerable.
Curious Fox might run a big race. She’s run well off much higher marks in the past and was only beaten a head on her only previous visit to Goodwood. She’s in fair enough form this season and could be the answer to a tricky handicap.
7.45 Kempton A class three handicap over a trip two yards shy of two miles.
The Ed Walker trained Sky Eagle is up in trip but judged on recent efforts at Newbury and Goodwood should be a good bet to see out the trip and his recent form is very strong in the context of this race. No problems with the surface either as he was a handicap winner here last year over 1m 4f.
Velvet Revolution was second in this last year and a close course and distance second last time out. He should again run his race and at around evens on BETDAQ is worth a stakes saver bet – covering the win bet on Sky Eagle to give us a bet for nothing, assuming Velvet Revolution places that is !
