GOING WILL DECIDE SPRINT

Good news for Inisherin (pictured below) fans. His market lead for the Haydock Sprint on Saturday is strengthened by the absence of Regional.

Last year’s winner has been ruled out for the rest of the season but the 2023 placed horses – Shouldvebeenaring, Believing and Swingalong – are all among the 29 acceptors.

The Haydock track is currently on the soft side but connections of the Hackwood one-two, who had Regional behind on firm at Newbury in July, are cheered by the weather forecast; no rain but cloudy, so drying but not scorching.

That Newbury one-two of Elite Status and Lake Forest, along with Inisherin, now make up a squad of three-year-olds at the front of the betting.

Only one three-year-old has won this since the Classic generation ‘owned’ the race up to 2017.

The Sprint is Group 1 and worth £226,840 to the winner. That’s around a quarter of the Grade-3 prize Andrew Balding won at Kentucky Downs at the weekend.

His Sea The Stars three-year-old Bellum Justum, ridden by Frankie Dettori, won the Nashville Derby (‘readily’), worth £830k to the winner.

Bellum Justum is rated 110 in England, Inisherin 117. Third in Group-3s at Ascot and Goodwood, Bellum Justum was more than 13 lengths behind City of Troy in the Epsom Derby. It’s a funny old racing world.

WATCHING GOODWOOD STARS

⭕ 1.45 Goodwood Talking of Andrew Balding, he’s won this 2yo stayers’ race twice in the last four seasons, one of them first time out, one of them ridden by Oisin Murphy.

First time is unusual for a Balding juvenile but at this trip of a mile so soon in their careers, you can’t mess youngsters around, particularly if they take off from a good break.

Regal Ulixes, obviously a son of Ulysses, is related to Regal Reality, who scored first time as a 2yo, making all. He won a Group 3 every year after that, six in all.

In plum stalls today, and with racecourse experience already, are Sir William (1) and Glittering Legend (2), though Watching Stars (4) is interesting, as Charlie Appleby bids for three winners of this race in seven seasons.

The Sea The Stars colt has the usual Shamardal connection of Godolphin’s, but this is the first foal of one related to a French Derby winner.

MAKE MONEY WITH ARAMRAM

⭕ 4.05 Goodwood This is one of the four-million-plus winning tracks for Richard Hannon, who is Joe Leavy’s top patron for prizemoney won. They could land the nap at around 7.6 offers on Betdaq Betting Exchange.

Well drawn today, Aramram ran well behind the speed star Jarraaf at Ascot last month before tackling the Great St Wilfrid at Ripon.

Now down 10lb and two grades in class, Aramram bolted up six lengths from the front at Nottingham in the Spring. He could try to make all again today from gate 4 on a track he will appreciate.

⭕ 4.40 Goodwood Aggagio returns to the scene of his triumph in this race two years ago. He would like some cut in the ground.

Conversely, East India Dock Road is back over the CD just nine days after being hampered but still going down only a neck. A beaten favourite looking for the money back.

What are points? Points facilitate a staking plan, which is the secret to creating profit. One point is whatever you choose: a pound, a euro, or whatever ….

Start with a bank and decide how much you can afford to lose over a period of time, and determine the size of your bets accordingly. Daqman makes this variation every day.
