3.50 Goodwood There have been winners of this from 8st 2lb to 9st 7lb but none drawn higher than gate 4. And that’s where you’ll find both ends of the handicap today, in the first four stalls!
Come On Girl (from the one stall) has 8st and Rose Of Kildare (out of 3) has 9st 7lb. But there are improvers in between.
Rose Of Kildare won (dead-heat) on the July Course at Newmarket off 81 but is 13lb higher now after running third in a quality nursery at York, and is 7lb worse off with her Newmarket runner-up, Graceful Magic
Come On Girl’s success came in class 6 at Kempton (AW) and the grey filly has been a loser of every run on turf.
They have reached for the blinkers for Ocasio Cortez, fifth in the Newbury Super Sprint and a winner at Chester, but well beaten on the last day.
I was impressed with Angel Grey’s show of speed at Windsor: BETDAQ 4.1 taken. A line through the runner-up gives something to find with Rose Of Kildare and Graceful Magic, but she’s on the upgrade and well drawn for a stable in form.
Miss Villanelle (12.5 offers) showed sudden improvement to score at Newbury over 7f after breaking well and crossing over to make the running. She’ll need to do the same from stall 10 here but has a featherweight, thanks to Cieren Fallon’s claim.
4.25 Goodwood What A Welcome won eight races out of nine in 2017-18 but it seems that marathon sequence has taken its toll. His Goodwood returns are 20.
Seinesational was second over 20 furlongs plus at Glorious Goodwood and may need further unless it rains. He, too has failed to score on the course (returns of 4432).
Themaxwecan won the Brown Jack at Ascot in July and a reproduction of that form would be good enough here. In fact, he’s rated a 5lb better horse now. I took 2.36 in the BETDAQ orange.
5.00 Goodwood Sweet Pursuit is another placed without winning at Goodwood (form 22), including when runner-up in this race last year.
Rose Hip’s form with Tom Marquand in the saddle is 111, and trainer Tony Carroll has improved the Acclamation filly 16lb since taking her over from Henry Candy.
