BOOKIES LURE OF LUDICROUS BETS: Daqman was on Goodwood Zodiac (WON 5-2 from 8.8 on BETDAQ) which completed Silvestre De Sousa’s four-timer yesterday but he issues a reminder yet again of how bookmakers lure the unwary title-race punter into ‘ludicrous bets.’

REASONS TO TAKE 10.0 AND 6.4: Today Daqman finds a Hugo Palmer two-year-olds double, a 10.0 outsider of Richard Fahey’s in a race he loves to win, and a 6.4 BETDAQ bet ablout a sprinter dropping into handicap company at Ripon.

SADDLED WITH LUDICROUS BETS…

Rubbish and not a fair deal. That’s how I saw – in this column – the bookies’ diminishing odds about Silvestre De Sousa to retain his jockeys’ title (2-7 from 1-3 earlier in the month) before Ryan Moore took a surprise holiday.

I said that the prices were rubbish and that there had been privileged inside information about Moore’s injury.

Even then, the champion would struggle for the rest of the season because he simply didn’t have the support in the second half of the campaign.

Today, despite his four-timer yesterday, De Sousa can be had at even money in a place, 10-11 with most bookmakers.

Those panic buying at silly odds-on are left dropping the catch like a silly mid-on whose hands are burning after a strike from Younis Khan.

No less ludicrous were the odds about Caravaggio for the 2,000 Guineas after the Phoenix Stakes completed his four-timer.

I warned then that a horse said to be doing 45mph on the gallops was a sprinter not a Classic colt.

Sure enough, Caravaggio was aimed not at the end-of-season two-year-old Classic trials but at the Middle Park. Now a setback means he might not even make that.

Caravaggio has eased to 5-2 for the Middle Park and 9-2 for the Guineas, poor odds in each case for a doubtful runner.

I’VE A FEELING IT’S ANOTHER FOR FAHEY

3.10 Epsom Richard Fahey’s form in this is 11-311 since 2010, with none of the four winners favourite, and he may have one here at win-and-place odds of 10.0 on BETDAQ this morning.

The last time his Arctic Feeling ran here at Epsom, in June, he raced off 95 in a class 2, and here he is down a grade and 15lb lower, including Natalie Hambling’s claim.

Interesting that he used to go well for a girl, Sammy Jo Bell, and has scored twice before at Epsom.

Silvestre De Sousas’ mount, Highly Sprung, the likely favourite, has twice failed to hack it in his own age group in class 3, his wins coming in class 4 and 5. Now he tries an all-aged class 3.

CASE FOR BEE WITH CROWLEY BUZZING

3.35 Goodwood Seven summers ago, Showcasing won an ordinary maiden but next time out improved the proverbial ton to take the Gimcrack.

Today his daughter Bee Case, also winner of an ordinary maiden (the second has won since), has only to step up to her handicap mark in this nursery to justify morning odds of 4.3 on BETDAQ.

She would land another blow for Jim Crowley in his bid to topple De Sousa from his title pinnacle: it was around evens and 10-11 each of two this morning. That’s where I came in.

YOU CAN HAVE THE HOUSE ON LA CASA

5.10 Hamilton On the form so far, La Casa Tarifa is a couple of grades better than these, having run up to one with a lower weight in a 19-runner class-2 race at York.

The winner that day, The Wagon Wheel, was paper favourite for the nursery at Goodwood (3.35), so the form could be boosted and the 3.25 La Casa Tarifa would disappear.

5.15 Ripon Second, fourth and fifth when Dawoodi was third in a big field at Redcar have all won since and the Exceed And Excel colt could complete a two-year-olds double for Hugo Palmer, after Bee Case at Goodwood.

6.45 Ripon CD-winner Imtiyaaz (6.4 BETDAQ offers) drops back into handicap company for the first time since a cracking second at York a year ago to Thesme, who ran so well in the Nunthrope.

CD-winner Excessable finished close up this year in the exact same York race (tautology rules, ok) and is a CD winner at Ripon: 9.0 this morning

Lexington Place is consistent without winning very often; he is 2-17 off a steady mark of 84-88 since he scored at Ayr in June last year.
