6.0 BETDAQ STRIKE FOR WINNER-A-DAY DAQMAN: Winner-a-day Daqman followed his Saturday supernap and Sunday’s 100-30 winner, with some big BETDAQ value at Wolverhampton last night with Al Shami (WON 85-40 from 6.0 morning offers). Al Shami was a WIN 20 recommendation giving him a profit of 11.5 points on the day – three bets today including a Hereford nap.

RAIN BOOSTS JADOOMI CHAMPIONS-DAY CHANCE: The constant improver Jadoomi, upgraded 31lb in the last year, has been supplemented at a cost of £70,000 to take on Inspiral in the Champions Mile at Ascot on Saturday, with the forecast rain in favour of the Celebration Mile winner. Daqman’s attention turns to the Long-Distance Cup and the hat-trick bid by Trueshan.

NOW IT’S TRUESHAN ON A HAT-TRICK

⭕ 1.25 Ascot, Saturday (British Champions Long-Distance Cup) Summer seems so long ago, like an old and warming tune on a fine Stradivarius or a champagne picnic on gold-cup day.

But it would prove to be the day the music died for the popular hero. The Gold Cup produced a new ‘unbeatable’ in Kyprios, who hammered home his advantage at Goodwood, cue for Stradivarius to think about retirement.

The old boy had lingered on with great courage, despite a double defeat last season by Trueshan in the French Gold Cup and then in this Champions Day long-distance cup.

That race has come round again and a hat-trick for Trueshan would earn him the right to challenge Stradivarius again – and the mighty Yeats – in terms of opinion on paper as to the greatest stayer of the 21st century.

Trueshan was a length and a half behind Kyprios after their one-three, split by Stradivarius, at Goodwood.

Softer ground would bring them close together, promised the Trueshan camp. They were in for a shock and a recalculation of the form. It was double-takes all round.

Kyprios went to the French Gold Cup at the Arc meeting when it rained on them at Longchamp as they watered! But Trueshan stayed at home and waited for Ascot this week.

Kyprios led ‘by a distance’ at the final bend and was 20 lengths clear at the line, despite taking an unscheduled lonely left turn right across the track.

The third horse home, Tashkhan, had been only five lengths behind him in the Ascot Gold Cup.
Coltrane, beaten nearly five lengths by Kyprios at Goodwood in July, hammered Quickthorn 14 lengths at York but was a neck off Trueshan at Doncaster.

That leaves Trueshan free to grab the Champions crown, a final fling without nemesis Stradivarius and new king Kyprios. But could the three-year-olds topple him on Saturday?

They are Aidan O’Brien handicapper Waterville, and Roger Varian’s St Leger winner, Eldar Eldarov, but they have to make up around a stone in the ratings, and a decision on Elar Eldarov’s participation will not be taken until later in the week.

No three-year-old has won the Ascot Gold Cup since 1918, and only one has won the Goodwood Cup in 33 years: Stradivarius.

But this Long-Distance Cup has gone to a second-season animal three times this century: Capal Garmon (2001), Royal And Regal (2007) and Akmal (2009). So there may yet be a race to savour on Saturday.

Betdaq Betting Exchange 2.75 Trueshan, 3.5 Waterville, 4 Eldar Eldarov, 7 Coltrane, 9 Quickthorn, 11 Beamish, Trawlerman, 21 bar

GETAWAY TO A GOOD START

⭕ 1.35 Hereford I was taken by Times Are Blue’s debut bumper success at Plumpton and he got better as the race went on. He is likely to improve and could shape into a decent horse but I just fear he could bump into an even better one today in the shape of Getaway Drumlee.

Ben Pauling’s runner showed enough in two Irish points to suggest he is well up to winning a modest event such as this and showed his liking for good ground when winning his second start.

The trainer also has him entered up for a race at Kempton on Sunday but this definitely looks the easier option and he seems to get him out on the track.

SHE’S EXQUISIT

⭕ 7.05 Newcastle I took on one favourite that looked too short yesterday and was rewarded with Al Shami’s 5/1 (Betdaq early value) win and I think we could have a similar case here in this novice event for which Sporting Hero was trading a shade of odds-on on the Betdaq Betting Exchange during mid morning.

He certainly stepped up from his Newmarket debut to win at Lingfield last time out and the form looks solid enough with the runner-up winning since.

Defying penalties in these races though is alway quite hard, even allowing for the fact that Sporting Hero won readily enough.

He has a serious rival in the shape of the filly Exquisitely who enjoys a 12lb advantage. She also has a similar profile to the favourite. A modest debut effort followed by a much improved second start – in her case a close up third at Nottingham.

She was a £150,000 purchase so has a bit to prove on that front but a win here would be a step in the right direction.

WAS THAT A HAT-TRICK?

⭕ 7.35 Newcastle Wasdale must have a big chance of completing a rapid hat-trick despite her 7lb hike in the weights.

Her wins at Wolverhampton (17 September) and here at Newcastle (30 September, same 6f trip) have come with a bit in hand and contributed to Julie Camacho’s excellent recent strike-rate of 5 winners from her last 14 runners.

Many of her rivals have big question marks. Slippin Jimmy is dropped in class and trying the all-weather for the first time but comes into this on the back of a 12 length defeat at Haydock.

The dark horse has to be Expert Angel who is another class dropper but this is another ‘first’ day at school for him tonight – running for a new stable (Kevin Philippart De Foy) and for the first time in a handicap and on the all-weather.
