3.00 Hereford I’m sticking here with Philip Hobbs who did me a favour on the Flat yesterday when Gumball landed the SUPERNAP at Lingfield.
Hobbs is in good form (under both codes!) and should land the novice chase here with Steely Addition in what could turn out to be a match with the Kim Bailey trained Station Master.
The ground has quickened up at Hereford and that should suit Steely Addition who was a winner on good at Wincanton earlier in his career.
He’s made a good start to his chasing career and should prove too strong for Station Master who is a full 15lb inferior on official ratings. Station Master was a winner last time out but had to work hard to win a four runner race for which he was sent off the even money favourite and he is not always the soundest of jumpers.
4.30 Hereford A modest lot compete the closing novice hurdle and I’m keen on the chances of Talktomenow who looks the most progressive of all of them.
Trainer Warren Greatrex has fitted cheekpieces for the first time and that will hopefully bring about an improvement on his fourth start. Encouragingly, his best run came on his debut at Plumpton which was the same good ground as he faces today.
7.00 Wolverhampton (Ladbrokes Handicap) Havana Rocket bolted up at Newcastle last time out and looks worth chancing on handicap debut here.
He had wind surgery prior to the Newcastle run which seemed to bring about an improvement and the same front running tactics are likely to be deployed here.
Assimilation has built up a sequence of seconds which may continue as I rate him the danger.
