CRACKERS CAN PULL OFF A TREBLE TO PAY FOR BOXING DAY BETS: Look out for a feast of racing on Saturday and Sunday, with two days at Kempton, including the Ladbrokes King George, and four days of stars at Leopardstown, which continues on Monday. Daqman lists his Fortune Cookies in today’s preview of the big races. and signs off until Boxing Day with some Christmas crackers for singles, doubles and a treble on Daq Multiples.
ENRILO LOOKS A ‘KAUTO STAR’ HIT
🎄 12.40 Kempton, Boxing Day Atholl Street can land a second win as a Fortune Cookies early bird after his 16-lengths stroll to make it 2-2 in a hack canter at Taunton 16 days ago.
🎄 1.50 Kempton, Boxing Day (Ladbrokes’ Kauto Star Novices’ Chase) Enrilo for Paul Nicholls and the Fortune Cookies!
He takes the big leap into Grade-1 novices after his odds-on defeat of Darlac at Exeter before that one went clear, comfortably to win the Silver Buck at Wincanton in open handicap company.
Enrilo’s main rival may be the dual Wetherby winner – by a total of 30 lengths – Shan Blue for Dan Skelton.
The Big Breakaway (Colin Tizzard) may try to redeem himself after the shock long-odds-on defeat at Exeter three weeks back.
🎄 2.15 Leopardstown, Boxing Day This Grade-1 novice chase has two for Fortune Cookies, Envoi Allen and Felix Desjy, pitching for Gordon Elliott against Willie Mullins’ pair, Energumene and Franco de Port.
🎄 2.35 Limerick, Boxing Day (Faugheen Novice Chase) This is worth only about half the 80,000-euros to the winner purse for the Leopardstown novice.
The split here is five probables for Willie Mullins, including Energumene, and Envoi Allen for Elliott. Which way will they go: Leopardstown or Limerick?
🎄 3.00 Kempton, Boxing Day (Ladbrokes King George V1 Chase) Cyrname for the Fortune Cookies could yet start favourite after his very smooth defeat of Vinndication in the Charlie Hall Chase at Wetherby, although he has 21 lengths to make up with stablemate Clan des Obeaux on last year’s one-two.
Cheltenham Gold Cup runner-up Santini was supplemented yesterday by trainer Nicky Henderson..
ALTIOR GETS HENDERSON GO-AHEAD
🎄 1.45 Leopardstown, Sunday (Future Champions Novice Hurdle) Hot-Cookie Ballyadam is on a hurdles hat-trick mission after a dramatic step up to Grade 1 at Fairyhouse in November, comfortably taking the prestigious Royal Bond.
🎄 2.05 Limerick, Sunday Vanillier, who won for us and for Gavin Cromwell at Naas, could try this half-mile further for the 2m 7f novice hurdle.
🎄 2.30 Kempton, Sunday (Desert Orchid Chase) Rouge Vif, who disappointed at Sandown, is given another chance but will be an outsider against Altior and Put The Kettle on.
Altior has received the thumbs up by trainer Nicky Henderson and Put The Kettle On is ‘go’ for Henry de Bromhead, unless travel restrictions intervene.
🎄 1.50 Leopardstown, Tuesday Easywork is our early-bird Cookie in a Grade-1 novice chase, trying to follow up his beginners’ chase success at Navan in November.
TODAY COULD BE PEMBERLEY’S TURN
⭕ 1.05 Huntingdon Hereford, Market Rasen and Wincanton – all righthanders – are where Pemberley has shown his best form, and Huntingdon will suit on his first chase stepped up to around 3m.
Pemberley jumped to the right when beaten a long way by Mister Murchan at Fontwell but this is back to a clockwise track, a total of 17lb better off. Trainer Emma Lavelle is currently 3-9.
His Dream has winning form only on better ground and Waikiki Waves goodbye at these weights. I took 5.9 Pemberley on the
⭕ 1.15 Lingfield Jamie Spencer is 5-9 here riding for David Simcock who has Campeao his only runner on his joint-top track for winners, with Wolverhampton also on 92. One for my Daq Multiples.
⭕ 3.15 Lingfield The quirky Casual Reply is an early favourite to take on, as a cast-off from Roger Charlton’s yard.
Her new trainer, James Fanshawe, is 0-7 and without a winner for more than a month, his percentage of horses running to form standing at a rock-bottom 0% in the Racing Post’s admirable stats.
To be fair, this is Casual Reply’s first run for the yard but it’s hard to find any positives for the eight-race maiden. Probably a morning drifter to lay and bet.
⭕ 3.35 Huntingdon Harry Cobden and Paul Nicholls are 2-2 at Huntingdon and Silent Revolution should land a short-priced nap. A stake of 10 would get you 9 in the BETDAQ orange this morning, and I shall keep asking for evens.
Surprisingly beaten half a length on the debut at his home track, Wincanton, the form was boosted by the winner’s following up at Fakenham later last month.
