MORE QUESTIONS THAN ANSWERS
⭕ 1.30 Catterick Runners in Sunday’s Great North Run ran the half marathon in record temperatures and were then treated to a biblical downpour at the end of the day. Weird weather.
The same rain has also fallen at Catterick with it forecast soft.
Brodie Hampson is reunited on the mare Let Her Loose and she has an incredible record on her of 215111 including a win here at Catterick over the slightly shorter 1m 4f trip but on good to soft ground.
She needs to win off a career high mark today but I think she has every chance in a race where there are question marks over her four rivals:
❓ Captain Haddock The chips aren’t down on this one today as he is on a losing run of 19 and trainer Heather Main is 0-9 from her recent runners. ‘Haddock’ also has something to prove having finished stone last at Epsom last time out when beaten 31 lengths.
❓ Sameem Has been nibbled at in the morning Betdaq Betting Exchange market but despite plummeting down the weights is struggling to reproduce his early career success. Ran poorly at Haydock last time out and has something to find with Let Her Loose on previous form here.
❓ Gift Of Raj You need not one leap of faith but two with him as he has flopped on his latest two starts (beaten 36 lengths and 16 lengths). Is a previous course and distance winner but looks risky on recent evidence.
❓ Lochnaver Pretty much repeat the comments from above. Needs to bounce back from two recent disappointments and her career wins to date have all come at Hamilton. Not sure the soft ground will help.
TAKING THE HIGH GROUND
⭕ 4.50 Catterick Highfield Viking is of interest here given his only previous win has come on soft ground and he gave a strong hint of a return to winning form with a promising third in better company at Haydock last time out. His trainer John Quinn is also in good current form (5 winners from last 22).
Despite two non runners it is a competitive finale with the biggest danger likely to come from the consistent Wreck It Riley who has placed form on soft.
Vortigan is 0-10 and hard to get a feel for at present – the soft ground may not help – he ran his worst race to date on heavy when last of eight at Doncaster.
⭕ 5.10 Leicester Moulin Booj scored with enough in hand at Leicester last week to suggest he can follow up under the statutory penalty and shrug off 10-2 in the saddle.
The penny has really dropped with him recently and looks worth another chance before the handicapper finally has chance to catch up.
