CAMBORNE IS ‘ONE TO GET EXCITED ABOUT’

1.10 Huntingdon This is a John Ferguson stamping ground. And this is one of his races (form figures in the last four years 1-11). Two of them were having their first ever race over hurdles. Just like Camborne today.

The Royal Ascot winner in 2012 for John Gosden hasn’t been seen since running in five Group races in a row last year. ‘He’s one to get excited about over hurdles’ (quote unquote trainer Ferguson).

Matorico was pitched into the Triumph Hurdle and the Punchestown Four-Year-Old Hurdle, both Grade 1, both modest efforts but they heavily disguise the grey for a low-level (class 4) race like this.

The best Camborne offers this morning while I monitored the BETDAQ orange (104% total) were at 2.9 but they were quickly taken, and I assumed that, at 3.5, Matorico was holding up the market for me.

2.40 Huntingdon This is the Tom Jones Memorial, as if there wasn’t a memory every day in the Al Bahathri gallop (the 1,000 Guineas heroine he trained) and every year in the Tingle Creek Chase (his champion two-miler chaser, 11 times a winner).

Ex-Etonian, the immaculate Harry Thomson Jones did it his way, but he certainly did it my way against the bookies when he won the 1988 Whitsun Cup with Inaad. Nice one, Tom! G&T awaits in the Bedford Lodge.

I’ll have more to say about the Inaads of this world, and their trainers, later in the week.

Evan Williams has had two novice-chase winners in the last 11 days with Padge and Zama Zama. Ex-French Moneyjean will be fit for the autumn mud: 8.0 on BETDAQ this morning.

There’s a jumping question-mark over Flat-bred Rock N Rhythm, and Balgarry has to give weight all round. So Notnowsam could be the danger off a featherweight.

2.30 Lingfield Tom Queally should soon have them strung out on Solstice Star in this hurdles race for Flat jockeys.

The gelding has already scored from the front and, by By Kayf Tara out of a Presenting mare, is bred to outstay them. Trading around even-money this morning.

DAQMAN BETS (staked 1 to 9 for strength; 10 would be a banker)
BET 8pts win (nap) CAMBORNE (1.10 Huntingdon)
BET 7pts win SOLSTICE STAR (2.30 Lingfield)
BET 2.5pts win and place MONEYJEAN (2.40 Huntingdon)
DAQ MULTIPLES: 3pts win double CAMBORNE (1.10 Huntingdon) and SOLSTICE STAR (2.30 Lingfield), and 1pt treble the same two with MONEYJEAN (2.40 Huntingdon)
